I mean, heâs on the Dark Council. So this tracks.
Iâm really glad that Satele gave us a pragmatic reason for doing the âright thingâ and not torturing the guy. If sheâd given us the moral high-horse Jedi thing, Moyraah might have gagged.Â
âAlternative interrogation techniquesâ.
Moyraah knows about torture.
Moyraah knew about torture even before Hunterâs goons worked her over for 17 hours straight on Corellia.Â
So - yeah. Taking the light-side option on this one.
Okay, this....
This can be read in several ways.Â
One - Moyraah knows more about torture than all but probably a handful of Sith. Maybe Marr is acknowledging that.
Maybe Marr knows about Corellia, and is acknowledging that.
Or... maybe Marr is being a dick and his âskewed perspectiveâ reference is a reminder that he and the council once decided to brainwash Moyraah simply out of pettiness, as a compromise for not executing her after she saved them from Jadus.
(Full disclosure - i got this idea from the lovely @inyriâ )
But seriously - this is a wicked one.

The school layout was more twisted and maze-like than Carter expected, as she constantly ran into dead ends and fences cutting off shortcuts to other corridors. This is more like a prison than a school! she screamed in her head after the fifth fence. So far, she had yet to locate Matthew after he had shuffled off. She searched the surrounding area of the corridor and branched out further and further with each pass.
After fifteen minutes of running around, her chest aching and threatening to completely collapse her lungs if she didnât stop, she found Matthew at a pair of drinking fountains. His face close to the mouth guard, he used the flimsy arc of water to clean off a stripe of blood above his eye.
âThere you are,â Carter said, slowly jogging to him, then leaning against the wall. She bent over, grabbing her knees and gulping down air.
Matthew raised his head, one eye closed and wet. âWhat are you doing here?â
She raised a finger, standing up and raising her head, her chest gratefully settling down. She pointed at her own eye, then the cut on his own. âWhat happened?â
âJust a cut,â he said, dipping his face back into the water.
âHow? I thought Iven only hit you in your cheek.â
âWell, his ring caught me in the eye and just- wait a minute.â He stepped back from the water fountain and wiped his face on his sleeve. âYou saw all that?â
Biting her lip, she nodded and pulled out her phone. âYes, I saw it. I recorded it for proof.â
Matthewâs eyes widened at the phone, then at her. âWho did you tell?â Silence and he stepped closer. âDid you show any of the teachers?â
âNein, I could not find any. But I,â his intense expression made her pause and she realized he wouldnât like the rest of the answer, âbut I remembered you said you have a sister.â
âNo!â Matthew grabbed his head, raking his fingers through the curls and scratching his scalp. âNo, please tell me you didnât send that to Opal. Please tell me you didnât.â
âShe needs to know,â Carter said. âHer own brother is being attack, er, beaten on.â
âYou had no right,â Matthew said, pacing in a circle, occasionally coming back to Carter and waving his hands wildly. âThis is none of your business! You had no right to get involved and drag my sister into this.â
âWhy? This has gone on for a long time, yes?â Carter asked as Matthew started another circle. âNow this can end.â
âThis wonât end,â he said, looking at her incredulously. âThis isnât a kid with his hand in the cookie jar. Something like this, once it comes out,â he pounded his fist on one of the lockers, the metal reverberating down the hallway, âthis will screw everything up.â
âYou cannot keep this a secret.â
âIt wasnât a secret to anyone except Opal,â he said. "Nobody gave a shit, so why would you? I spent years holding this in, for my sisters sake. And now you go and tell her without a second thought? Then all of it was for nothing!"
Carter wasnât sure what to say. She hadnât considered the consequences as he laid them out, simply believing this could move the situation toward a resolution. But the pain and fear of his expression twisted like a knife in her gut and she bowed her head. âI am sorry,â she said. âI did not think this would happen.â
âYeah, thatâs the problem,â Matthew said. âNow because you had to bring this into the light, things will get a lot worse. Thanks a lot.â
Carter clenched her fists. âI am sorry, but there is no need for that. I was only trying to help. Better to do something than let this go on.â She swept her arm at the bruises and blood flecks peppering him.
âI can handle things fine by myself.â
She scoffed. âYes, I can see that.â

Shaking his head, Matthew turned and walked off. âJust leave me alone.â
âNo, just wait a moment,â she said, but he had already run off, leaving her in the middle of the hallway, angry, upset, and frustrated at how this turned out. She swiftly kicked one of the lockers beside her, her toes now throbbing, and spun around, marching out the way she came. If he wanted to be alone and handle this, then she would let him. No use inserting herself where she wasnât wanted anyway. She pinched the bridge of her nose under her sunglasses, pretending to ease a headache as she wiped her eyes.

In the middle of the school courtyard, Iven examined his ring. The emerald in the center of it wiggled loosely after he had clocked Matthew and the gold around the band seemed a little chipped. He slipped it off his finger, examining the inner part for any other damage and absent-mindedly reading the little inscription inside:
Weâre so proud.
Love, Mom and Dad
He smiled and took in the others in the courtyard. Students whose rides were very late tended to migrate here, as it offered more shady areas from the sun than right next to the parking lot. Iven himself didnât mind the warm light and leaned back against the steps he sat on, soaking in the rays.
Soft grass crunched nearby under someoneâs stomping feet and he heard some muttering from a couple of students. Iven noticed a shadow over him and came back to earth in time to receive a hard slap to his cheek. Falling off the steps, he sat up on his elbows, staring at a livid Opal, her brunette locks flaring and framing her face like dozens of angry snakes.
âOpal, what the h-â
Slap! Again he went down and this time, he scooted backwards from her.
âHow dare you,â she said, uttering each word in a dangerous note and the crowd surrounding them took a few steps back. âWho the hell do you think you are?â
Scrambling to his feet and looking around, Iven realized everyone had formed a circle around them. âOpal, what is it? Whatâs going on?â
âDonât play dumb!â she said. âMy brother! Who the hell do you think you are doing that to him?â She took another swing at him and he dodged, moving close to the crowdâs edge while the surrounding students oooâed and cheered Opal.
There werenât any holes for him to escape and all eyes were trained specifically on him. This was bad.
âOpal,â he said, keeping his voice calm and level, still backing away and following the circle as she came after him, âcan we discuss this somewhere else?â
âWhy? Afraid everyone will know how much of a pussy you are? Or do you need your whole emotional support group before youâll nut up to anyone?â
âOpal, look, Iâm sorry,â he said, again jumping out of the way of her hands. âI shouldnât have done that-â
âYou got that right.â
â-and I didnât mean for it to get out of hand. It was an accident.â
âAn accident?!â she shrieked and rushed him, this time catching his ankle with a swift kick. Hopping on one foot, he put some distance between them and the crowd gratefully expanded a little, giving them more room.
âYou and your friends ambushing my brother is not an âaccidentâ. Thatâs the furthest thing from an âaccidentâ. How long has this been going on?â
Yet Iven no longer paid Opal any attention. His eyes jumped to his hand, where he noticed his ring missing, then scoured the ground near his feet.
âHello? Iâm talking to you,â she continued.
He dropped to his knees, peering through the blades of grass. Around him, some people muttered and speculated if he was groveling for forgiveness, but he barely heard them. All he was wondering was why on Earth his parents had to choose an emerald for the ring, making it so hard to find, and berating himself for even taking it off.
âAre you serious? Are you that interested in the ground?â Opal said, her temper flaring brighter.
âJust hang on a minute, please,â he said, crawling along, digging through dirt and cracks in the sidewalk. âI dropped something. Hang on.â
âYeah, any respect you had,â Opal said. Still, he focused on his search, coming across bits of food and pen caps, but no ring. Nearby, Opal continued to curse and taunt him, yet he didnât waiver in the slightest.
At least not until Opal asked, âIs this it? This gaudy ring?â
He looked up and there it was, firmly pinched between her fingers. âYes!â he said, relieved and standing up. He held out his hand for it. âThank you.â
âHm,â she tilted her head, giving him a grimace, âso some shitty jewelry is more important than my brother, who you and your friends beat up. Well then.â
With sudden and surprisingly quickness, she threw the ring onto the steps he had been sitting on. âNo!â he yelped as her heel crashed down on the emerald, crunching it underfoot and digging her shoe this way and that.
Pushing her foot away, he picked up the ring and examined it. The emerald was not only loose, but had been chipped away, with bits missing around the edge and center. The band itself bent and had scratches along it. His ring, his parentsâ special gift to him, completely ruined. There was no fixing this.
âHurts to have something important to you damaged, doesnât it?â Opal asked. He blinked at her, having completely forgotten she was still there. She raised a threatening finger right between his eyes. âYou come anywhere near Matthew again and Iâll crush your balls next time.â With that, she marched off to scattered applause.
With the show over, the crowd quickly dispersed and went about their conversations before the commotion, although a few pointed and laughed quietly at Ivenâs devastation. He hurried away from the prying eyes to one of the doorways and examined the ring closer.
The scratches were worse than he feared, winding around the inner and outer parts of the band. The meaningful inscription inside was partially effaced, now meaningless. He worked the ring back onto his finger, but it wouldnât move past his first knuckle. Iven desperately tugged at the band, trying to work it back to its original shape. However, it was no use.
Sitting down on the ground, he squeezed the ring in his hand and opened it again, wishing it would suddenly be good as new. His heart sank at the reality though and he felt as shattered as the emerald. As if to put a fine touch on it, another large chunk of the gemstone fell out as he watched and rolled into the grass, lost forever.

> Oldest of 9 siblings in total
> Lends his little brother (trans) his clothes because he knows his parents probably wouldn't approve
> Likewise, he keeps a lot of his siblings' secrets in general and takes care of the things they can't talk to their parents about
> Will take the blame if by some chance one of his siblings get in serious trouble
> Pressured to be the best by his parents and get good grades so he can get a high paying job and make tons of money
> His parents are very poor, with both working long hours to try and support all their kids, so they leave Iven to babysit and do most of the work raising them
> Iven's choice to bully in general is most fueled by jealousy, aggression and a lack of support due to him having to support everyone else all the time
> He genuinely loves Opal, because he can be emotionally vulnerable with her, and she'll help him pay for basic neccessities all the time without making him feel like he owes her back for it; Not to mention he literally thinks she's beautiful! And likewise, she makes him feel handsome
