I went to my doctor and got approved for an IUD! He recommended Skyla and i am beyond excited to get one! How was your experience getting Skyla inserted?
I got Paraguard, not Skyla. Skyla is a hormonal IUD, while Paraguard is copper and non-hormonal.
However, my experience may not be the same as yours, regardless of whether or not it’s the same brand. I have a small cervix and needed a surgeon to come in and do my insert. I required Novocaine before hand, and the actual insert was difficult and painful. It came out a few times and needed to be reinserted, which hurt a lot and resulted in some blood loss during the procedure.
A lot of people told me they had mild cramps for a day or two. Instead, what I experienced was very, very severe cramps for about two hours. I was very uncomfortable and in a lot of pain but it passed quickly and I’ve been 100% pain-free since. I consider it absolutely worth it for worry-free birth control for 12 years. (Skyla is about 3 years).
I hope your insert goes well. Try to relax and it will be over in no time!
