I think a lot of discourse about media that features black female protagonists, has been ruined because of the initial vitriol of just the thought of having us at the forefront of anything from the jump.

The way ya'll treat black femme leads when a project is just announced!

I'm not even talking rolled out .I'm not even talking streamed, yet.

Ya'll haven't seen a single episode. You have not watched the movie.

I'm talking the cast list comes out, and immediately it's misogynoir. IMMEDIATELY, it's racial slurs. Immediately it's woke.

Which is just a dog whistle for 'oh my god, I'm gonna be forced to see black people, even worse black women as the center of attention.

Honestly, this goes for centering almost any marginalized identity on screen. But, I'm gonna talk about black women, because we are the ones that ya'll care about the least.

And just the announcement of a character or a cast list starts out like that and then the project is rolled out. Then some of ya'll wanna conveniently list other things about the show, other things about the movie, that makes it subpar. Supposedly.

I'm sorry but a lot of us are not convinced that that is made in good faith.

Some of ya'll, might be genuine, but a lot of ya'll just want a way to drag the project! Without being called out on your bigotry!

Sometimes, it's conveniently nitpicked to a degree that other projects featuring other different looking kinds of people aren't nitpicked to that level.

We don't fucking believe you, cause we know that some of ya'll conveniently picking other parts of the project apart were also in the comment section calling so and so a monkey.

We can't have a good faith discussion about these projects, because some of ya'll or your compatriots allegedly not you, have made the environment disproportionately hostile since before the project was even rolled out.

NO, please don't deflect, because we are not even yet talking about the quality of the writing of the project, the quality of the writing of the character.

We're talking about the black femme actors and characters, not even being welcome to exist.

And somewhere down the road, when ya'll are not triggered just by the concept of black women existing, then maybe we can chat!

I absolutely am fucking annoyed with those people. I'm even more annoyed that they still exist in this year of our DRAGON LORD 2024!
