Okay so as far as I can tell, Australian election coverage consists of a nice man who looks at the augury bones (small percentage of the vote counted so far) and says what the future holds, and everybody trusts him very much
The llm/genAI discussion has so much ableism in it. Not that I necessarily think it's a good tool for any particular use being discussed, but there's so much "how can somebody need xyz done for them?" "people should just use their brains" "they are so stupid they can't even..." "no one can xyz anymore, we're doomed". It sure makes me feel great as someone who needs help with a lot of really basic things 🙃
There are plenty of good critiques that don't throw disabled ppl under the bus. Like:
you don't have a good way to know if this information is true
why do you want a machine to do the fun part for you?
this is only giving you the illusion of experiencing a social connection, in lieu of talking to other people
is this actually a good tool to meet your need?
Think carefully before criticising someone's needs and abilities. It's not always inappropriate but a lot of the time it's straight ableism. There is a huge spectrum across people!
I do in fact need help writing emails and making phone calls. I need help choosing my food, and deciding what to do next. I need help understanding long texts. And sure, I'm Disabled™️, I've got the bag of diagnoses and laundry list of doctors to prove it. But if things are only okay after I show my second class citizen card, then they're not really okay are they.
If there's something wrong with the tools people are using to solve a problem, criticise the tools. Don't criticise them for having the problem.

Narratively, Quincey doesn't really do much in Dracula. His only really impactful action in the plot is dying. (He gives Lucy blood, but it could have been easily written around if he wasn't there.) But he's a cool cowboy and he's part of the polycule and I enjoy the book more with him in it
i would trust Antony Green with my life
