It really is a gut punch

Jane became an avatar of the Corruption because the wasps nest sang to her that they loved her.

Simon became an avatar of the Vast because he fell in love with the sky.

Jude devoted herself to the Cult of the Lightless Flame because they offered her a release from her depression.

Hezekiah became an avatar of the Buried because it promised him a restful sleep beneath the earth.

It's so interesting because these statements are scattered around and lesser in number than the other statements about how people barely escaped an encounter with one of the Fears only to be later be taken by them anyway, that when we hear an avatar's statement, it's almost like..poetic or romantic in a way??? if that makes sense?? like the Buried freaks me out but listening to this episode still makes me want to take a nap in the dirt...

[on finding the right sfx] I want to make sure that the description has context around it. Like, you know, ‘This is my son that is just about to be fed.’ And I also looked for that sound where the kid had been crying a little bit, but then they're being soothed.

I was like, ‘Okay... So I will find one where you can hear that they've just finishing up crying.’ [....] Sometimes with babies, you can tell that they've been soothed, but they're doing the wind down.

I can't bear the sound if I don't know it ends well.

ALEX:

I would often use a child ‘happy cry’ out of context, because with the right tweaking, a kid going [JOYOUS SCREAM] followed by “It’s that Christmas present I wanted, waaargh!”, it's close enough that you can make it work.

A lot of the yells are very happy children [...] it's just kids being really happy.

It's all just babies being soothed, happy kids, and some really good sound editing! 💕💕💕
