TMAGP 34 has got me thinking about the ways in which people have tried to fend off the fears, and then I started thinking about Jon again and his rib.
He used part of his body as an anchor, but it didn't work because there was not enough "Human" left in him to be tethered to it. Only the tape recorders, a physical manifestation of his connection to the Eye could save him. And Martin knew this. And it saved him.
The rib never did anything. But Martin knowing Jon, and accepting his changes, choosing to know him even as an Avatar, did.
Something something fear alters our perceptions of reality/ourselves, but awareness of these changes can help us navigate our fears easier.
