Michael couldn’t remember the last time he cried this hard. Hard enough that the wind was knocked out of him, drooling, choking on his own words and spit.

He had seen her before. He had seen her when dad was still building her. She was his protector, this copy that would fend off his nightmares.

But in this form? Standing tall, looming over him, normally shut eyes wide, glowing, concerned? He couldn’t stomach it.

She stood there, unmoving, as she waited for a noise. Somehow, Michael knew she wasn’t going to hurt him.
