One of the funnier parts about being a furry is that one of the skills you get is spotting "who is in this community, solely to make money off of us while having no respect for us"
And it carries to other hobbies and fandoms you could be in, who is there because they smell money and want a cut
The thing that gets me is that I see it so much on Royal Road, I can see it in the way that people write and the way that they have to to follow the Meta. Its the same behavior I see with streamers as well, following the Twitch Meta to the letter as a kind of Get Rich Quick scheme. With authors on Royal Road what that usually ends up looking like is
Write some form of progression novel (LitRPG mandatory)
Minimum of 2k words per chapter (6k words per week, pad with system interaction)
Post 5-7x a week for the first month, then slow to 3x a week
Main Character has to use the trope of the year, 2023 and 2022's was "OP Main Character"
These people see the money to be had, and will sacrifice however much of their creative soul to get it, and their work suffers for it.
