#IToldYouSo Last year, when @mountairydowntown announced that this building was sold and was going to be converted to a multi use building, I expressed my concerns about preserving the integrity of the building. Well, well, well. Look at what ended up happening. The massive HVAC unit atop the building fell right through it. Now, that unit has been up there for years, but keep in mind, sometimes it takes that long for structural failures to manifest themselves. That's what happened with the Surfside condominium collapse in Florida. Such failures can be exasperated by any structural changes made during construction. An example of this is what happened to the Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans. The only difference is the Hard Rock Hotel collapsed due to shoddy construction. This collapse, which is too early to say exactly what happened, was probably due to the heavy HVAC unit, which the building was not designed to handle and, thus, could not handle.
