Netflix’s Black

Just finished watching Netflix's Black again. This is one of the first Korean dramas I've ever watched and it's still freaking awesome even though I already know how it ends. This show is the ultimate lesson in minding your own business. Even if you can see death, MIND YA DAMN BUSINESS!!!! (WYPIPO)

This drama has layer upon layer of intertwined fate between it’s characters and it’s freakin’ awesome. It’s a supernatural, action, crime drama with a touch of a love story without the cheesy cliché . Highly recommended. Go watch then come back and read below. These are my thoughts as a person who thinks too much.

SPOILERS AHEAD

I really wish the ending had a little more explanation. It really leaves you to think for yourself what would have happened to the other characters if Joon never existed and Ha-ram didn’t see grim reapers anymore.

First I want to state that if Ha-Ram’s dad, being a Grim Reaper,  would have just explained to her what she is, what she’s seeing, and that you can’t save everyone, then this whole mess would have been avoided. I think this every time I watch a drama, “If people communicated well in the first place then this wouldn’t be a ‘drama.’”

After “not existing,” Joon jumps time to make sure the car accident with Ha-ram’s parents never happened. so one must assume that never existing and/or being a grim reaper places you outside of time. Also, never existing should have been explained as never existing on earth. This may have been lost in translation. I may be asking for too much here.

Okay, so if Joon didn’t exist, then there would be no bully planting drugs on him causing his mom to go to jail. Thus, Soo-wan wouldn’t have been left with Clara and the sexual assault occur. We are supposed to believe that if not for Soo-wan, the sexual assault wouldn’t occur and these assholes wouldn’t have a secret to protect. Let’s be real. A creep is a creep. If not Soo-wan, then it would have been some other 14 yo girl. But I digress. In this alternate universe the killers and their henchmen live on and that’s a major problem for me. 

Man-soo, he would have been fine in this Joon-less universe but I would have liked to have seen it. I know Ha-ram wasn’t interested in him, but without Joon it’s totally possible that they would have ended up together.

Moo-gang would have never needed emergency surgery. After the Shopping center collapse, he would have received a heart. He also would probably have still ended up with Soo-won.

It broke my heart when Crazy Dog died. Someone Korean please explain to me the toothbrush thing. I’m hoping it’s just an exaggeration because it’s gross and unsanitary.

The biggest question I have to ask to anybody listening (reading?), if you were in Moo-gang’s mom shoes (pre-AU) what would you do. It’s easy to say I’d do the right thing in hindsight, but you never know. Knowing that there were deaths due to the shopping mart collapse, I would have tried to find a heart that way.
