"It's alright. You have me...all of me."
I wrote a little comfort story/fic about a Johnshi headcanon I had that I may or may have not forgotten to put in my headcanon list when I posted it months ago, but I figured I'd made a small fanfic out of it.
NOTE: for the headcanon, Kenshi is more of a calm (or heavy) sleeper where he tends to sleep longer than usual. While on the other hand, Johnny is more of a light sleeper on most nights.
What's also worth noting for this headcanon is that Johnny rarely, if ever, gets any nightmares. But when he does, it usually may have to do with either past trauma or horrific battles and what not, which can unfortunately lead to him feeling rather shaken due to how vivid it can get for him. Though, he's not very comfortable speaking about them because of how he was raised and how it was quite rare to see him in a vulnerable state, in fear of being seen as "weak". The nightmare he had in this is left ambiguous so I'll leave it to your imagination on what it was about. Do that with what you will.
He suddenly woke up in a cold sweat, his breath fast and shaken, and his eyes all teary. Another stressful night for him. He checked the clock on his phone to see what time it was. 1 AM. He was much too disturbed to even go back to sleep in fear of having the same nightmare again. He hated being awake by himself at this hour, as it felt too weird to him, especially after a nightmare that left him in a vulnerable state. The cold air in the bedroom brushed against his bare chest, making his body shiver. It really didn't help that he could still feel some of the cold sweat on his body, and it also didn't help that he still had that inner feeling of trepidation in him. There was so much running through his mind that he just wanted to-
"Johnny?"
He suddenly heard a soft, yet gruff voice call from right next to him. The soft light from the other nightstand suddenly turned on. It was Kenshi. He had just woken up aswell, as he sensed that something bad must've happened.
"Are you alright? I heard you wake up so suddenly. Did something happen?" His voice was gruff and low from waking up. However, his tone was calm, with a small tint of concern.
"I'm fine, Kenshi. I promise..." Johnny mumbled, trying his best to keep himself together after waking up from that nightmare. "...I got a little startled. It's happened to me many times. Don't worry about it."
Kenshi placed his hand on Johnny, feeling his chest rising and falling with his shaken breaths as he spoke, along with the remaining cold sweat on him. He knew something was wrong. He rarely found Johnny like this, especially at nighttime. He strongly sensed that Johnny wasn't feeling right.
"Are you sure, Johnny? You seem as if you're disturbed about something." Kenshi moved closer to Johnny, growing more concerned about his tense tone.
Johnny turned around to look at Kenshi, taking in a deep sigh to keep himself collected. As much as he was nervous about actually discussing what had happened, he didn't want to go back to bed with such a heavy weight in his chest. It was better to talk it out than keep it tucked away in his mind. He swallowed hard, finding the courage in him to finally speak up, despite his apprehension.
"I'm just scared."
"What are you scared about?"
"I...I don't fucking know. I just feel so lost..." He wasn't sure where to begin with what happened in the nightmare. He sat back in the bed, looking down at his hands that were slightly trembling. He was still trying his damnest to remain strong in front of Kenshi, but the more he thought about it, the more his guard seemed to slip.
"Try to start from one thing, and continue on from there. Take your time." Kenshi reassured Johnny, remaining patient with him and giving him time to collect his thoughts before he explained himself further. Johnny was hesitant to speak about it at first, but deep down he needed someone to talk to. Someone who he has known for quite a long time and had quite a strong bond with.
Johnny eventually told Kenshi about the nightmare he had, recounting every detail that he was able to remember, and how it felt all too real and familar for him--almost as if he had experienced it one too many times before. As he explained, his voice started to become more shaken, almost as if he was going to cry. He didn't want to cry in front of Kenshi, as he feared that it would cause more concern. He was feeling too many emotions all at once--agitation, distress, confusion, guilt...it was too much for him to handle all at once. He was too emotionally overwhelmed to deal with such heavy feelings at this hour, as it was leaving him in a more vulnerable state the further he went in detail about the nightmare. Despite that, it was also a bit relieving to finally open up about his burdens and pushing his apprehension aside.
Kenshi listened as he spoke, and he understood. He understood that it was difficult for Johnny to process such heavy emotions, as he rarely displays them. He held his hand for comfort as he gave him some time to calm his breathing and collect himself.
"Cage, I promise that what happened wasn't your fault, and I know that you did what you could. I understand that you're not used to opening up about matters like this, and I am deeply sorry you have had to go through that kind of hell and have it be a longtime burden to you, but you must know it's okay to talk to someone about it instead of letting it ruin your mind in silence." His hands slipped up to his shoulders and rested there. "The way I see it, and as much as you can be quite flashy and comedic at many times, you're a very brave and loyal man who has great courage in protecting those close to you. That's what I love about you, Cage. We wouldn't want you any other way."
He wiped away Cage's tears with his hands and let him rest his head on his shoulder, hugging him warmly for comfort. Kenshi knew he needed it after talking about it.
"It's okay to be vulnerable about how you process situations. It doesn't make you any less weak. It's one of the key things that shows your growth as a person." He brought Johnny's gaze back to his, resting his hand on his shoulder. "You've come a long way to get to where you are now, as I can strongly tell that you have become the better man than you once were in the past. I'm proud of you, Cage. I love you."
The two shared a soft yet loving kiss, pressing their foreheads against each other's and feeling a sense of tranquility wash over them both.
"I love you too..." Johnny spoke, his voice now a soft mutter. He started to feel a bit better after taking about it to Kenshi, as it was like a burden had come off of him. Though, after all that talking, he was starting to become sleepy.
Kenshi helped Johnny ease his remaining tension by laying back down into bed, only this time his head rested on his broad chest. He understood that what Johnny needed at the moment was physical comfort, especially after what happened. Kenshi pulled the soft blankets back up and cuddled with him, delicately running his fingers through his dark brown hair and making sure he was comfortable, observing how he was relaxing well in his arms.
"Do you need anything else right now, Cage? You need some water?" Kenshi asked, looking down to see him surrounded in the soft blankets.
"Not really..." Johnny replied, his voice slightly gruff from feeling tired. "...All I really need right now is you."
Kenshi lightly chuckled, laying a soft kiss to Johnny's head. "It's alright, Cage. You have me..." he caressed his face, easing him into his touch. "...I'm not going anywhere."
Kenshi continued to cuddle with Johnny as he calmly dozed off to sleep in his warm embrace, with nothing but a sense of relief and tenderness. He warmly smiled as he felt his soft breaths brushing against his bare chest, feeling secure and comfortable with each other at this soft nocturnal hour. So peaceful, so calm...After all that the two had been through and all the chaotic and treacherous battles they faced, even being with each other on a quiet and simple night like this, truly healed something in them.
