it’s absolutely true what bell hooks said, that “women and children all over the world want men to die so that they can live”. this is something that usually goes unsaid, or at most it’s whispered late at night and then you chuckle and pretend it was a joke. but it’s a common fantasy for women and children. i remember dreaming up ways in which my father would die, and i remember the first and only time i voiced it to my mom and learned that she felt the same. my aunt is less quiet about it, and more than once we’ve gone through the possible ways in which her husband could die. she was recently very disappointed when the doctor said his heart is in good health, as she was hoping for a heart attack (don’t feel sympathy, he’s a pedophile who’s abused countless girls).
