#JackedKirby - Martian Manhunter... Kirby Style!!! 💥💥💥 Considering the fact that most comic book characters have been around for a very long time and Jack Kirby worked for both major companies in comics for a long time, it’s not very hard to find some time that Jack drew any particular character. As a matter of fact, the list of popular mainstream characters that were created/were popular while he was active and I have never seen him draw (either in a comic or in a commission/sketch) is very small: Punisher,, Wolverine and. most of the other Giant Size X-Men cast versions are really some of the only ones I can thing of. Notice how all of those characters are Marvel? How about DC? 💥💥💥 Well... in 1984/85/86 Jack worked on various Super Powers miniseries for DC comics and he pretty much got to draw EVERY MAJOR DC Hero and Villain in some form on that series. The Justice League, their villains and even some supporting characters... many of them are all in there. Some are prominently featured... some are tertiary inserted in the story. But they are there, and every once in a while Kirby flexed his muscles on one of them. 💥💥💥 Case in Point: Martian Manhunter in Super Powers Vol 2 #Issue6 (February of 1986). In the series finale, the Justice League squares off against Darkseid and his minions. All the big guns are there: Batman, Superman, Red Tornado (hahaha)... but who does Jack turn to for one of the opening double lager splashes to feature: Martian Manhunter! (Pic 1) MM is wearing his signature red X chest straps, blue cape with the high collar, blue shorts and hero boots... but it’s nice to see him in a signature Kirby action pose (see closeup in pic 2) with a hand full of Parademon shirt as he winds up to land a haymaker!!! We also get an AWESOME headshot later in the book (pic 3) that is sooooo Kirby it’s scary. I love the prominent brow that Kirby gives him. It has always been a part of Martian Manhunters facial look, but it’s more pronounced here and reminds of some versions of the Hulk and Thing drew during his run at Marvel! A beautiful rendition of the character, one I don’t think drew outside of the Super Powers series prior!!! #Kirby #KingKirby https://www.instagram.com/p/CALtZ7MBksw/?igshid=1wo3hickryxph
