A man arrives for a meeting in a Jerusalem office building and accidentally presses the wrong elevator button. When the doors open on the 21st floor, his eyes see an unfinished expanse of prime real estate. His imagination sees an upscale boutique hotel.

Five years later, in June 2015, the 21st Floor Hotel opens at 34 Ben-Yehuda Street, offering duplex suites with commanding views over the city and beyond.It’s one of numerous boutique hotels popping up around central Jerusalem’s Ben-Yehuda Street pedestrian mall, stretching from King George Street to Zion Square at Jaffa Road. This lively spot for souvenir shoppers by day and for café and pub hoppers at night wasn’t always a preferred destination for overnight visitors.

Israell joined forces with Vespo on a brand new release: Simony / Larceny.

September 2023 - Mercurial artist and songwriter Israell has recently joined forces with one of his frequent collaborators, Vespo, who is a talented multi-instrumentalist. The latter was working on a new instrumental composition when he decided to involve Israell in the process. The two actually composed an extension for it, and Israell, the singer,  added lyrics and vocal melodies. The result was a unique iteration of the original draft, which also features some additional production from Israell himself, who added a selection of additional instruments to add to the texture and depth of the mix.

The song title, as well as lyrics such as “stock exchange on human soul,” reflect the song’s depth, and it is a reminder to consider the value we put on people and the way the world of today is becoming more ephemeral and less concerned with spiritual truth…are we all becoming just like “Donkeys chasing the carrot” or is there still something deeper to life than just worrying about material things?

On first impression, this upcoming song is incredibly diverse, not only because of the rich tapestry of instruments included, but also due to the evocative vocal style, which actually changes throughout the song. This is a great way for Israell to showcase his vocal variety, and his ability to conjure up a wide range of influences from his diverse musical background. The combination of genres is truly awe-inspiring. At times, the rhythm of the drums is reminiscent of dub music. However, the vocals are akin to rap in some sections, while also displaying some melodic parts later in the arrangement. The synth layers give off an electro-pop vibe, with more layers added to the mix.
