So cards in the table, I wasn't really keen on Bernard Fanning's latest album, Brutal Dawn, coming up to this quick review. Isn't It A Pity isn't a bad song by any means, but as the leading single for a 2017 release it feels more like a Powderfinger effort than one of Fanning's solo works, and that sells the album the wrong way. Much like Civil Dusk last year, this falls back towards the more relaxed and folksy sound of his first release, where he really shines. It's an album with a lot of thoughtfulness and heart, showing the he wide extent of his musical ability, and as a companion to Civil Dusk it becomes far stronger. I'd honestly recommend listening to both albums together to get the full experience (in either order, they mesh together well either way). Highlight tracks include Shed My Skin, How Many Times?, the aforementioned Isn't It A Pity, Fighting For Air, and Letter From A Distant Shore. Available on iTunes and Spotify. Done something to my elbow, not sure what, made arm/back/core day a struggle. Physio work helped after the fact, but if it keeps up I might need to take it easy for a while. #gym #health #fitness #fit #beard #ink #tattoos #tuesday #fiveforfive #armday #backday #coreday #comewithmeifyouwanttolift #irontherapy #bernardfanning #brutaldawn #shedmyskin #howmanytimes #isntitapity #fightingforair #letterfromadistantshore #rock #alternative #folk #blues #australia #2017 #itunes #spotify #newrelease
