I know, anon. I know…lol.

No matter how aggravated I get with the lazy writing choices and cheap angst TPTB insist on repeating over and over, all it takes is one beautiful scene between Barry and Iris and I’m there.

I always get a laugh out of people claiming they don’t see the chemistry between Grant and Candice. Grant has chemistry with just about everyone, but when he and Candice have a scene together they just…Blow. Me. Away. There is a reason Candice was cast opposite him, they are both intuitive and talented actors who work really beautifully together and when they turn it on they melt my screen.

So last night was definitely enough to drag me back even as I was cranky about lame villains and lack of true in-depth character development. Barry and Iris are amazing together and I loved every scene, but the apartment took the cake of course. The entire scene was beautiful. When Iris confessed she only got him a wallet and he immediately returned with “I’m sure I’ll love it” I was supremely happy. So adorable! She could give him a rock and he’d love it because it’s from her. For all their occasional OOC moments that are strictly plot-driven spread over many characters, the writers have managed to correctly interpret Barry’s deep desire to place Iris West head and shoulders above any other woman. There’s Iris, and then there’s everybody else. No one else compares, and getting to see a little (I’d like a lot more) of them in love and working so well off each other keeps me on the couch every week. If not for them I would have dropped this show already.

Since I tend to write long fics I have less to choose from, but luckily I have slightly over five, lol.

1. Sacrifice: A golden oldie at this point, but I still love it. I wrote this version of Barry saving Nora/Flashpoint in season 1 as it became obvious that’s where the story was heading. What germinated as a tiny idea blossomed into a fic that I really enjoyed writing. Getting to dig into the emotional repercussions of choices is something I love, and this one packed a wallop. I was especially happy getting to show Barry’s depression and trauma afterwords, and Iris as the wonderful, strong, supportive and amazingly badass woman she is.

2. Impossible Hope: My first fic, and still one of my faves because it flowed out so smoothly and was the first time I realized how much I liked writing Iris as a reporter and the beacon of light she is to Barry.

3. Lead and I’ll Follow: To this day one of the wildest fics I have ever written because I deliberately embraced elements I don’t usually like. (Writing in present tense, short quick sentence structure.) I had loads of fun with the fractured story line structure and fear motif though. Plus Iris is a speedster! I could write different versions of that over and over.

4. Worlds Apart: The fic that I started as an attempt to make myself feel better about the ending of season 1 that took on a life of its very own. Married westallen and babies, other world shenanigans, heavy emotions and angst, tons of humor and the surprise (even to me!) of Cisco getting his own story line and progression. This fic is a huge sprawling behemoth that covers every element I could possibly throw in, and I enjoyed every last bit of it. It almost felt like a full season.

And last but not least!

I’m delighted that Iris instigated the kiss. I love that it and her “see you soon” is a clear indication of her intention to romantically be with him in any timeline. It was a beautiful moment and I’ll never complain about that. I expected there might be a kiss. It fit the moment.

But some of its beauty is robbed by the fact that this is now the fourth time that Iris West and Barry Allen have kissed, and there is still only one of them who remembers those times. It’s always Barry who remembers, and I think people are getting tired of that. In addition, at least for me, the sheer repetition in the writing is getting old. I appreciate them making clear the idea that westallen is meant to be in any timeline or world. That is a crucial part of the mythos and I appreciate them taking time to solidify that. But there are only so many kisses and beautiful moments that immediately reset that I personally can watch before I get a) bored or b) irritated.

It’s not the kiss that’s the problem. It’s the continual slant toward Barry in the writing and the repeating of similar tropes over and over. That’s a writing issue and I’m in my rights to be frustrated by it. Maybe I’m asking for too much from this show. If so, in time I’ll drift away and become interested in other things. That’s fine. But I don’t appreciate anyone implying that I am trying to control the show or demand my own way. I just know where my limits are, and the writing is dangerously close to going past them. That’s for me to deal with and certainly not for others to judge. You’re right anon, writers can’t please everyone. If they can’t ultimately please me it’s up to me if I want to continue and lower my expectations or decide it’s not for me anymore.

And don’t think I’m happy about this development. I’m not. I want to love this show with everything in me but the writing is making it hard. I still love westallen to bits, they are one of only two couples that move me on this level. Their meet cute and connection in Flashpoint was AWESOME and I grin like a delighted idiot every time I see it. Some of those moments and lines made me melt and the way they looked at each other was everything I always wanted. There was nothing wrong with it, in fact it was everything right, and led up to the kiss perfectly. I just want that in a timeline that doesn’t reset.

I have deep hopes that we’ll get that in the next eps and if so I’ll scream like a fool from rooftops and love every second of it. I know myself and I’ll probably immediately forgive all the playing around and dig in for the long haul.

But I don’t give my time to shows who tiptoe around, flirt with possibilities but find every way to avoid actually committing, or commit and then undo it. TV writing is often about dancing around things until the last season or episode, but if they can’t give me a reason to stay in between that’s something I need to deal with alone.

Or her mother, with her “You have been my greatest love” and “They do not deserve you.”  Motherrrrrrrrrrs I love how we get mothers focus!

RIGHT??? I also noticed Superman looks the most happy on the JL one, when compared to the first two.

Also, lol at the dark clouds over Batman on the BVS poster, and the only clouds present on the JL poster…are over Batman. He’s redeemed, but he’ll always be a bit darker side of the heroic coin.

Every single time I think we’ve culled everything to be had out of these films someone else finds a new layer. It’s a thing of absolute beauty!!!

I want Clark back so bad, just so he can see what others have done because they were inspired by him and want to honor what he stood for. I will be the one quietly sobbing in the back when that happens, tbh. Many tissues will be sacrificed.

BUT luckily I found it in my other WIP that is next in line to be done, an Earth 2 Iris buddy-cop story. So here you go! :)

Iris rolled her eyes and spared a moment to be grateful they hadn’t split up that obnoxious pair in order to give her a new partner. Anyone had to be better than either one of those two.
