I know our fandom is bigger then this why are the note counts for stuff in the episode so low? Did that many people up and abandon the show as to make the note counts so low for people's gifs for anything in S7?
I have gotten several asks about note count over the last few months as if that’s the only deciding factor into who is watching and where the interest is. And yes, note count is important (I’m an edit maker, afterall - I of course watch the notes on things). But you have to take them with a grain of salt and understanding of how your fandom works…
And the truth is - fandom is fickle. There really is no guarantee, from one set to the next, where a gifset will go. Sometimes a gifset hits right away and takes off. Sometimes it never takes off, no matter how much work and love the edit maker put into it. Sometimes, it’ll sit dormant for months or years and then suddenly everyone is reblogging it. While it can give some indication of fandom interest, it isn’t all of it.
I made a gifset of Rogers from 7.03 with a cheeky caption about his badge - now this was the episode AFTER the ‘last’ Captain Swan one. It hit 2k after a couple weeks. Look at that. A post-CS, Detective Rogers set, making notes in the thousands.
My ‘when nobody picks up on your wit’ gif post has over 500. As does this one about Rogers’ sobriety. And that moment when I realized I had fallen just as hard for this version of Hook as I had the last.
Yet this one, that focused on the second half of Killian centrics from the show, didn’t even clear 200. This one I was really happy with, made during 6A, didn’t make 200 either. And let’s be honest, when I’m making gifsets of Colin in pretty much ANYTHING that’s older than Once, odds are there aren’t gonna be too many notes there (I have gotten lucky with a couple gifsets of The Rite, but otherwise, most stay below 500).
The Once fandom has been exceptionally kind towards me as an edit maker and extremely supportive of the content I make, overall. I’m not about to knock them because some have clearly moved on and don’t wanna reblog stuff. Or some are waiting until they feel a bit better about the nature of the show right now before diving into the content for this current season. It is what it is. Higher notes would be amazing - they always are. But I’m not sweating it too much. I knew coming into this season that the note counts would be way different than what they were before, for obvious reasons. And again, it all can change over time (a lot of those ones in my edit tag you may see with 1k or close to 1k? It took time for those to get there. Me sitting here watching the notes, going ‘oh please just a couple more!!’ and it’s taken months for those to come in. Because fandom will reblog what it wants when it wants and that’s just how these things go).
