Now that Iāve graduated from undergrad, itās such a wild experience to look back on all the fainting episodes I had. If youāve followed me for awhile, you know Iām a fainter. So I thought it would be fun to commemorate my most memorable fainting experiences:
- my last year in undergrad, I was walking to class with a friend. This was probably the 2nd or 3rd faint he witnessed. I told him I felt sick and sat down on some nearby steps, and he knelt in front of me. And then I went outš« When waking up from passing out, Iām laying flat on my back now, looking up at the sky, and also my friendās face hovering over me. He goes, āwelcome back bestieā and gives me a peace sign. It was literally the exact expression of šāš» which I did not get a chance to fully appreciate, because I passed out again. When I woke up, he was on the phone with my sister. He looked down at me and was like, āhey! Grace is coming to pick you up. PLEASE can I carry you.ā To which I mumbled some sort of reply, and he went, āgreat!ā and then hoisted me into his arms, carried me about 1/4 of a mile to the parking lot, stuffed me in my sisterās car, and then went, āI know this is normal for her but, like, maybe take her to a doctor?ā And then on the drive back to my apartment my sister bought me a sandwich and after that I was All Better.
- this one is from the semester before, with the same friend. I am in a lecture hall of maybe 20th people when I knock out. While everyone freaks out, my friend just stands up and goes, ānothing to see here,ā and then Iām pretty sure just grabs my legs and drags me out the door. The floor was marble so not a lot of friction. At least this is the story I was told. What I remember is that I wake up in the hallway with him kneeling next to me, and he just gives me a thumbs up and goes, āparty rockin?ā To which I replied, āwhat the fuck is happening?ā
- I passed out cold in front of the elevators leading up to my dorm my sophomore year. I woke up cradled in the lap of a frat boy who was stroking my hair. 4 of his frat brothers also gathered around us. It was like when Dorthy woke up from her coma at the end of The Wizard of Oz. I had never met any of them. The one holding me went, ācan we get her somewhere more private?ā And then just lifted me up in his arms bridal style and brought me into one of the study rooms. At this point Iām more awake and talking now and told him to call my roommate, who came down. He hoisted me back up, took me back to my dorm, and then TUCKED ME INTO BED. Probably the wildest one of them all.
The moral of the story is that we were all baby adults just trying to care for each other, which was sweet, and also fucking hilarious most of the time. There are so many other stories, some I do think I have irl stories posted already. Luckily now at this point in life, I rarely have fainting episodes that arenāt in my home, because I know the warning signs better and know when I should stay home and rest. I also usually call a friend, like my old coworker (seriously gotta find a better name for him) who comes over and chills with me when I donāt feel well.
