When I was a little girl, my sisters and I often played with our Barbie dolls on the front porch of our small Midland, Texas home. We'd spread out our sizable collection of clothes, most of which were hand-made by my grandmother, and imagine our Barbies as models, mothers, and brides. We had a lantana plant just like this one that somehow managed to thrive in a dry square patch of soil at the edge of the concrete. The clusters of small flowers were perfect bridal bouquets for our dolls when a wedding was part of our play.
