Overcome by the need to sew an ancient Greek Ionic chiton.... I know very little about ancient dress history but it's so fascinating and a chiton would be ideal for summer.....
I’m making my own Chiton (ionic) info below:
I just finished making a bunch of jewelry! Very fun I like the way it’s all looking a lot. It’s Loosely historically inspired I’m mostly working on rule of cool. I’m waiting for my Pins to come in, I need to spray paint one of them because I do not want to mix metals on this one and I need to sew up my chiton. And then I just need to finish the cord belt and the Himation (which will take the longest) I sort of expect to be like 80% of the way finished for Several Months I anticipate being done with the belt by December. Especially because I’m going to have to break for Christmas gifts soon, and then the himation Might be finished by mid February at the earliest. Feels like I have my spark back lol, I’ve been wanting to make this outfit for a very long time, this past week I decided to Frog the himation I had been working on because the yarn is Gorgeous but I wanted to go up a needle size to work it up a bit quicker and to more accurate dimensions I still think I’m probably going to run out of yarn before I finish and it doesn’t look like it currently comes in that color anymore since I bought it like 2 years ago at this point but I’m hopeful with a bit of cheating and blocking I can make it work maybe a fade to a compatible color or something
Ancient Greek Ionic Chiton
I made this chiton for my ancient greek/roman themed birthday party and took it with me to greece in 2014. The fabric is of course not historically correct, neither is the trim nor the buttons. But I had a lot of fun making and wearing it. The fabric is a little see-through and feels very nice in hot weather.
