"I'll see you later, mi amor." The redhead said, waving a goodbye to her brother-in-law and best friend at the door. Feigning a smile until he drove off down the street, she sighed deeply, resting the back of her head on the wood, gathering courage to enter the Davenport household. Since the doctor told her she was unable to conceive, she had been spending less time around James, blaming him for her inability to give him children, and seeking refuge in the arms of his brother. As her hand made its way to the cool doorknob, the sinister expression of the doctor's face came flooding into view once more.
'I-I'm sorry, Mrs. Davenport...' The doctor mustered, tapping his pen on the clipboard, his eyes fixated on the results. 'I wish I could give you a better answer to your examination, but I can't. There's no way we could... there isn't a way we could save this. We could connect you with someone if you're interesting in surrogacy or adopting, however. As of now, we're unsure if we could do a full surrogacy.'
It had been months since she found out she couldn't have the happy ending she had always wanted, and each time her memory faded into the worst day of her life, she had always wound up in a section of her home without realizing it. Being embraced by the pillows on the sofa, her mind woke once more by Sav crawling underneath her legs and turning onto his white stomach, begging for his owner to pet him. Before, the redhead was able to muster the strength just to amuse him. Now? She couldn't even pretend to care about quenching his thirst for attention.
Her alabaster fingertips played with the wedding wing she wore. Still shining against her dull, lifeless skin. Lua smiled faintly, recalling her wedding day. The tears that streamed down her face as James whispered such Spanish words to her, 'mi vida', and wiped them away, kissing her forehead before the priest had finished giving their vows. It had been the happiest moment of her life. Being contrasted with the worst day of her life, there wasn't much to go back on in terms of happiness. Adrian was there when she needed someone most, adding color to her grayscale world. Still, she couldn't go a day without realizing how much she couldn't give James children.
Hearing the door open, and Sav's feet scattering against the floor to welcome James, Lua frowned. Was it already dinnertime? Did time really escape her once again? It seemed to be a common tone, getting lost in her thoughts as of late. Checking her wrist for the time, she forced herself up from the sofa, meeting James and Sav at the entrance. "M-mi amor, I-I'm sorry... I didn't make dinner today. I can get something started quickly, though." She told him, pulling her coat closer to her body. "I'm really sorry, I just... lost track of time, you know?" Part of her hoped that forgetting to make dinner for the second time this week wouldn't anger him, and another part wished that he would suggest takeout instead so she could go off and hide somewhere for the rest of the night, but she knew she wasn't going to be able to hide from her husband for very long.
