Linda, Age 32 Do you have a smartphone or other device? What do you use it for? Yes, I have an iPhone. I usually use it for talking to my friends or looking up information I need. I try not to use it too much, I think it’s better to focus on where you are and what you’re doing.

Do you have any other devices, like a tablet?

No, don’t have a tablet. Have a computer at home, mostly for work.

Why are you at the Public Market today?

To get some stuff from my grocery list, it’s usually cheaper here than at the bigger food stores like Wegmans. It’s also just a nice thing to do on the weekends, I like the atmosphere. 

Could you describe the atmosphere?

Yeah, it’s like very busy here obviously, especially when they’re doing special events like today, but everyone still feels pretty friendly, and the weather is nice. It just feels very “Rochester”, you know? It’s nice that these people are all around here and you can be a part of a local business.

Could you elaborate on that last bit?

I like giving business to my neighbors, or just people who live around me is cool. I feel like I’m doing something that’s like ‘better’, because I know it’s from around here and the guy I’m talking to as I buy it is the one who grew it or knows the guy who grew it. 

So would you say you prefer to eat locally grown products?

Yeah absolutely, yeah. 

Do you have any specific vendors you return to regularly at the market?

Um, usually just whomever has what I need that week and it looks good, but the apple people on the corner over there I do go back to a lot. But yeah, usually just stuff that looks good.

Do you talk to the vendors much when you’re buying?

I mean sometimes, but usually it’s busy and they’re rushed, so it’s maybe just a few words.
