Also orientalism, but I saw a perisex, white trans woman say that she uses the intersexist f-slur for herself. Her defenses for this were โitโs just a termโ, โit only describes some intersex peopleโ, and โlesbian is also used as a porn category and no one calls that word offensiveโ. There wasnโt a single reference to the fact that the term is also ethnically exclusive.
I know this is all pretty typical behavior for TRFs (which she is, I checked), but her โreasonsโ for why she believed she could use the term are still so bizarre to me, the last one especially.
This is intersexism and interorientalism. @this-is-orientalism
The fu slur is exclusive to intersex East Asians. It was literally created TO REFER TO INTERSEX EAST ASIANS. Saying "it only describes some intersex people" doesn't change the fact that it was made *for* intersex people.
The word originated from a Japanese journal describing diseases [link] during the 12th century, describing someone with ambiguous genitalia. Aterwards, it began to be used to describe gods & art with "both sets" of genitalia. The fu-slur is deeply entrenched in East Asian intersex history, and it was only in the 1990s when it started to be used as a porn trope for women with a penis & vulva.
Appropriating a word with historical context for intersex East Asians is not okay. A slur being misapplied to a group doesn't make that group free to use it. Also, lesbian is not a slur.
A better comparison would be the way that hermaphrodite (also a slur that is exclusive to intersex people, but the race isn't specified in this case) is used as a porn category, often throwing peritrans people and cosexual creatures into it as well, even though the term wasn't made for them. Does that mean peritrans people can clam the h-slur? No. The same way that pericis monohet men who get called "fags" cannot claim the f-slur, because they are not the primary target of the slur.
