I still can't believe it, but I GOT THE INTERNSHIP!! I'm going to spend this August learning at my country's academy of sciences and with my lab partner at that (honestly, I wouldn't have been brave enough to do this without her, bless this girl). We met up with our mentor for the first time today and he seems great - I mean, he told us he has four cats, of course he's great...

it was a very, very good day, to say the least :) we saw countless humpbacks very close to our boat, of which at least two were a mother-calf pair! we also saw tons of pectoral flipper slaps and seven breaches! i am EUPHORIC

I passed all my finals and so my first year as a chemistry student is over :) This past semester was particularly difficult, but I genuinely did my best and I'm very happy and thankful I get to do this!
I spent the last week doing nothing and just resting, today I started preparing for my internship which I'm still both terrified of and excited about ahaha. I have a month of reading articles ahead of me and it'll inevitably fry my brain but I'm going to learn so much. And in two languages at that! So great

The first day of my internship is behind me and I still kind of can't believe it. We didn't do much today, only paperwork and organizational stuff, but tomorrow the syntheses begin! :)
I picked up Nabokov's Laughter in the Dark yesterday and so far I've enjoyed it a lot. Reading it feels a little like watching a sudden catastrophe unfold, in a fascinating way, and the prose is beautiful
