I read an article today that said companies don't want to hire millennials (18-late 20 somethings) because we are entitled, spoiled, and disloyal.

My response? False. False. and False.

I'm a 22 year old, proud millennial and I'm calling bullshit. 

I'm not spoiled or entitled. I'm furious. Society told us to go to college, because there's no way we could lead successful lives without a bachelors degree.

So we did. We racked up debt. A lot of it. Because if you didn't know, college is way more expensive now than the days our parents went (if they went, because they didn't need to to get a good job.)

And we didn't just go to school. We interned...FOR FREE. Because why pay us if you're in a position to take advantage of free help, right? On top of that, we had actual jobs to pay for rent, ramen and a slew of student loans.

Then we graduated and guess what? No jobs.

And we're entitled because we don't want to flip burgers to pay off the college degree that society told us we couldn't live without? Fuck that.

We aren't entitled. We're pissed. 

Neither of my parents went to college, but they both found jobs with health care and this thing we'll never see called retirement. 

Those days are gone. Most entry level jobs in my field are all part-time because companies don't want to pay for my benefits or God forbid anything over minimum wage.

I'll continue to work hard to get where I want to be, but don't dare call me "entitled" because I AM worth more than a job at the local Burger King. If you wanted us to be o.k. with just anything, you shouldn't have raised us to believe we could accomplish anything we set our minds to. Because we did, and that was a lie.

My sister's a first-year teacher and the school she works for made sure to hire her a month after they actually offered her the job. Why? Because state mandates were changing, and if she signed after July 2014, they wouldn't have to pay her retirement. Yeah..Let that sink in.
