Ce n’est pas mon projet mais celui d’un camarade, voici une présentation. It’s not my project but a comrad’s one, here is a presentation.

“Belkî Sibê (Peut-être demain) : Un voyage à travers la guerre et la révolution”

“Belkî Sibê (Peut-être demain) : un voyage à travers la guerre syrienne et la révolution du Rojava” est un film documentaire prévu par Alexis Daloumis et the Shadow Crew, à propos de la guerre contre l'EI en Syrie, et la révolution du Rojava.

Il couvre la période de la bataille de Manbij (été 2016) jusqu'à la libération de la ville de Raqqa (15 octobre 2017), la destruction du califat islamique et les élections du 2 décembre 2017.

Il a été produit par un volontaire internationaliste (Alexis Daloumis) et par tout ceux et toutes celles qui ont aidé de différentes façons au long du processus (The Shadow Crew).

Dans ce documentaire, il n'y aura pas de personnage principal. Ce seront plutôt plusieurs voix d'une multitude d'endroit qui viennent ensemble pour créer un récit dialectique et collectif, qui cherche à éclaircir à la fois les aspects militaires et civils/politiques de la situation en cours dans la Syrie du Nord, à la fois des perspectives locales et internationalistes.

Il contient des enregistrement des opérations et des batailles défensives où le directeur a combattu (Manbij, province de Raqqa, Tabqa, ville de Raqqa), de même que la vie quotidienne à l'arrière, des occasions spéciales, des célébrations et des cérémonies. De plus, il comprend un grand nombre d'entretiens d'individus de tout milieu : des officier.ère.s de haut-rang, de simples soldat.e.s, des politicien.ne.s, des civil.e.s, des kurdes, des arabes, des internationalistes, des turkmènes, des syriaques, etc.

Nos besoins et nos tâches

Il y a des heures de matériel, dont le traitement requiert beaucoup de travail de professionnels compétents variés pour compléter le film. Plus nous arrivons à avoir d'argent de cette campagne, plus nous seront capable d'employer de gens à cette fin. De plus, en plus des besoins standards de post production, il y a un grand besoin de traductions, la plupart en kurde et en arabe. Nous planifions de donner ce travail à des réfugiés et nous voulons être capable de bien les payer.

Nous avons planifié nos coûts :

1. Traduction (kurde et arabe en anglais) : Nous planifions d'engager des traducteur.rice.s professionnel.le.s dans la communauté réfugiée ici en Grèce, dont beaucoup a été déplacée par le conflit que ce film documente. Le plus d'argent que nous levons à cette fin permettra à plus d'enregistrements d'être traduits –  pas limités seulement à ce qui sera présenté dans le film, mais il y a de nombreuses heures d'enregistrement qui restent utiles et qui seront aussi publiées librement, celles-ci ne seront pas dans le montage final du film. Minimum 500 euros.

2. Couleur et traitement audio : Du fait de la grande variété et du volume considérable d'enregistrement (séquences de combats, interviews, vie civile), l’étalonnage de couleur, le traitement audio et le reste de la production technique seront des tâches coûteuses (l'un des problèmes évidents est la portion importante d'enregistrement ayant un son problématique qui va nécessité une attention particulière). Ce travail demande la commande de matériel informatique mais la dépense principal dans cette catégorie sera l'embauche de professionnel.le.s. Minimum 10000 euros.

3. Montage : Alors que le réalisateur du film et l'équipe ont déjà tourné les séquences avec à l'esprit une vision créative, nous auront besoin d'engager un éditeur.rice professionnel.le avec une équipe sous-éditeur.rice.s pour produire un long métrage documentaire ainsi que pour monter entièrement le matériel.

4. Frais de festival, dépenses de voyage, frais divers et accessoires : Le coût pour soumettre le documentaire aux festivals de film est important et les budgets de déplacement peuvent être minime – l'argent que nous lèveront en plus servira pour d'autres demandes. Minimum 5000 euros.

Nos objectifs

Nous pensons que ce documentaire racontera beaucoup d'histoires qui ont besoin d'être raconté, contextualisant l'implication d'un grand nombre de parties dans les luttes de la Syrie du Nord au fil de ces dernières années.

Notre espoir est que cette documentaire inspirera et informera beaucoup à travers le monde, répandant les mêmes leçons apprises par ceux et celles qui ont expérimenté en personne ces événements historiques.

Mais derrière le film lui même, l'utilité de ce matériel peut dépasser grandement le potentiel d'un long métrage documentaire. La Guerre Syrienne et la Révolution du Rojava sont des événements historiques d'une grande importance dans notre période. L'intégralité du matériel deviendra des vidéos d'archive historique précieux. Une anthologie d'histoire orale, enregistrée comme cela c'est passé. Nous voulons avoir l'opportunité de traiter cet ensemble et de le rendre disponible pour la postérité. Après cela, il sera publié sous une licence Creative Commons ou une similaire.

[Également, il y a des projets parallèles qui peuvent être crées en dehors de son traitement. Des courts et moyens métrages documentaires, à propos de thématiques plus spécifiques ou dérivées, par exemple un court métrage déjà envisagée à propos de la résurgence de la gauche américaine et des politiques radicales antifascistes aux États-Unis, basé sur les entretiens approfondis d'américains internationalistes.]

Enfin, ce film n'est pas un produit, il ne sera pas vendu, il sera pas du cinéma commercial et n'aura pas de la télédistribution. Il va circulé dans autant de festivals que possibles à travers le monde et publié, librement accessible sur internet. “Belkî Sibê (Maybe Tomorrow) : A Journey Through War and Revolution”“Belkî Sibê (Maybe Tomorrow) : A Journey Through the Syrian War and Rojava Revolution” is a planned documentary film by Alexis Daloumis and the Shadow Crew, about the war against ISIS in Syria, and the Rojava Revolution.It covers the period from the battle of Manbij (Summer 2016) until the liberation of Raqqa city (October 15, 2017) and the destruction of the Islamic Caliphate and the December 2, 2017 elections.It has been produced by an internationalist volunteer (Alexis Daloumis) and all the people that helped in many ways along the way (The Shadow Crew).In this documentary there will be no main character. There are instead many voices from a multitude of places that come together to create a collective and dialectical narrative, that seek to illuminate both military and civil/political aspects of the situation that is still unfolding in Northern Syria, from both internationalist and local perspectives.It contains footage from operations and defensive battles where the director has fought (Manbij, Raqqa province, Tabqa, Raqqa city), as well as from the everyday life in the rear, special occasions, celebrations and ceremonies. Moreover there is large number of interviews from people of all backgrounds: High ranking officers, simple soldiers, politicians, civilians, Kurds, Arabs, Internationalists, Turkmen, Syriacs etc…

Our Needs and Our Tasks

There are hundreds of hours of material, whose processing requires a lot of labour from various skilled professionals in order to complete the film. The more money we can get out of this campaign, the more people we will be able to employ to this end. In addition to the standard requirements of post production, there is a massive amount of translation needed, mostly from Kurdish and Arabic. We are planning to give this work to refugees, and we want to be able to pay them well.

We have broken our costs down:

1.Translation(Kurdish and Arabic to English): We plan to hire professional translators from the refugee community here in Greece, many of whom have been displaced by the conflict this film documents. The more we raise to this end will allow for more footage to be translated - not limited to just that which will feature in the film, but the many more hours of footage that, while not making the final cut for the film, is still valuable and will be released freely as well.  Minimum 5000 Euro

2.Color and Audio Processing: Due to vast variety and sheer volume of footage (battle footage, static interviews, civilian life), the colour grading, audio processing and other technical production will be expensive endeavours (one of the most obvious problems is that a significant portion of the raw footage has very problematic audio that will need careful attention). This work will require the purchase of hardware but the main expense in this category will be the hiring of professionals. Minimum 10000 euro.

3.Editing: While the filmmaker and the team have already shot the footage with a creative vision in mind, we will need to hire a professional editor along with a team of sub-editors to produce a feature length documentary as well as to edit the entirety of the material.  Minimum 10000 euro.

4.Festival Fees, Travel Expenses, Incidental and miscellaneous costs: The cost of submitting the documentary to film festivals is substantial and travel budgets can be minimal – the more money we raise would allow for more submissions. Minimum 5000 euro.

Our Goals

We believe that this documentary will tell many stories that need to be told, contextualizing the involvement of many parties in the struggles of Northern Syria over the past few years.

Our hope is that the documentary will inspire and inform many across the world, spreading the same lessons learned by those who experienced these historic events in person.

But beyond the film itself, the usefulness of this material can vastly exceed the potential of one feature length documentary. The Syrian War and the Rojava Revolution are historical events of great significance in our period of time. The entirety of the material will become valuable historical archive footage, an anthology of oral history, recorded as it was happening. We want to have the opportunity to process all of it and make it available for posterity. After this it will be released under a Creative Commons or similar license.

[Also, there are even side projects that can be created out of its processing. Short and medium length documentaries, about more specific or derivative thematics, such as an already envisioned short documentary about the reemergence of the American Left and Antifascist radical politics in the USA, based on the extended interviews of American internationalists.]

Studying the Work of The Internationalists as a Guide to Action

An interesting piece on the origins of the New Communist Movement in Canada.

March 13 marks the anniversary of the founding of The Internationalists at the University of British Columbia 54 years ago in 1963. On this occasion, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) sends revolutionary greetings to all Party members, supporters and long-time allies, especially those from the 1960s who continue to share weal and woe with the working people and their striving for empowerment.

This year, the Party is calling on its organizations to invigorate the program it set for all its basic organizations to engage in the systematic study of the work of The Internationalists and the writings of Hardial Bains as a guide to action. This study is crucial because the activity of The Internationalists during the period 1963 to 1969 set the thinking, political line, organizational principles and methods of work of CPC(M-L), which was founded on March 31, 1970.
