Ron grew up with his rather large family just outside of Devon, England - the sixth out of seven children, and the youngest boy of the lot. Growing up in such a large group of siblings was hard on Ron; he was often the target of sibling bullying and pranks, something that caused him to develop self-esteem and confidence issues. Although he was never the best student (mostly because of second guessing himself), he maintained decent enough grades to manage to squeeze into university. He'd decided throughout his time in secondary school that he wanted to make a difference, to help people, to be there for someone when no one else was. He had considered going into Nursing for a long period of time, but after relentless teasing from his siblings about wanting to go into a "girl's profession", Ron found himself at medical school at Newcastle University.
After a hellish five years of study, Ron managed to graduate from med school much to everyone's surprise, and even landed himself an internship at a small hospital close to home. Although his original intention while he was in school had been to go into psychiatry, Ron found himself drawn to surgery instead. He did well enough, although he had a certain reputation for being that one intern that none of the Residents or Attendings wanted on their team due to his lack of confidence in his decisions. And when it came down to it, Ron ended up failing his intern exam.
Wanting a fresh start, especially to get away from his reputation and his failures, Ron decided to follow his baby sister to the States, managing to snag himself an intern position at the same hospital as her (although he's fairly certain it was more out of pity than an actual desire to have him there). Now he's preparing to start over, hoping to actually be successful this time around - and praying his sister keeps her big mouth shut about the fact that he has to repeat.
Ron is most interested in neuro, more for the fact that physiological psychology was always a big passion of his in school, and he believes that he can make a difference treating the physical causes of mental health issues and neurological disorders.
