I just realised...
If all the traits of the four houses had not been put together, Hogwarts would never have been built. All those stories we grew up on, from Harryâs first flight to the mess that The Cursed Child is would never have been realised. James and Lily would have never fallen in love, there would be no âSlytherinâ or âGryffindorâ in history books. They only exist because of the pooled in trait of the Founders.
If they had no ambition, the very idea of Hogwarts would not exist, for what importance is the idea of a school when they were unheard of (remember these are the Middle Ages, rightly called the Dark Ages), when they were executed for the idea of magic regardless of whether or not they practised it.
If they were not resourceful, Hogwarts could not exist, because, what money or land do they have?Â
If they were not intelligent, they could hardly teach future generations how to survive. They could not build a towering structure like Hogwarts, or study, teach or practice those spells that are littered throughout the castle, from the moving staircases to the talking portraits.
If they were not hard working, the school and castle could hardly have been built up as they were. The school would never have attained fame, just as the citadel would never have been built.
If they were not brave, they would never have gone through with the idea. Hogwarts would be nothing but a fantasy of theirs.Â
It is only due to the fact that they all shared those that Hogwarts exists. They were not only epitomes of what their houses stand for, they had to have all contained all those characteristics for Hogwarts to flourish.
I still am not the biggest fan of Gryffindor.

Ginny spots her through the window of a cafe, stirring her cup with a distant look.Â
Besides passing glances, more glares on Ginnyâs part, the two hadnât interacted much in school and something tugs her into the cafe.Â
âCho,â Ginny waves, not at all surprised by the stare she gets in return.
Cho is slow to repeat Ginnyâs name, as if unfamiliar on her tongue and Ginny waits for an invitation.
âPlease, sit,â Cho gestures, her face now painted in a curious stare.
Smiling, Ginny takes her place across from Cho, accepting her offer of a drink.Â
Itâs a tensioned silence as the drink arrives, Ginny unsure of where to go from here.
She hadnât thought that far ahead.
âHow have things been?â she tests the waters first and Cho gives her a small smile.
âGood. I work at the bookstore just down the way.â
Ginny doesnât visit the shop as much as sheâd like and she nods her interest for Cho to continue.
Choâs smile falters for just a moment and she stares down at her cup.Â
âIs it bad?â she whispers. âThat I still havenât moved on?â
Ginny blinks at this sudden confession and she reaches out, taking Choâs hand in her own.
âThe war took so much from us,â Ginny starts, her voice trembling. âWhat happened in school...â
Painful memories flash in Ginnyâs mind, dragging her back to her first year and she shudders when Cho squeezes her hand.Â
âIâm sorry,â Cho shakes her head. âI shouldnât have said anything.â
âNo. No, Iâm grateful you did. So many refuse to,â Ginny immediately jumps in.
Too many people have kept quiet, moving on in a way that just seemed like forgetting. It isnât as simple as that for Ginny and with some of her closest friends, including Harry, out of the country, sheâs been left alone in her past.
âIf only we couldâve helped you sooner,â Choâs thumb runs along Ginnyâs knuckles. âAfter finding out what happened to you, I was so angry and scared.âÂ
Ginny swallows down what claws at her throat, trying to remember if she had ever noticed Cho much at all during her first few years at Hogwarts.
âCedric was a good person. The world isnât as bright without him in it,â Ginny returns the gesture.
The world around them has faded away and the two hold onto each other as if this is their final lifeline. Such different lives, yet crossing over all the same, silent regrets grow in Ginnyâs mind.
âWould you like to stop by my place sometime? Where we can talk more?âÂ
Choâs voice cuts through Ginnyâs thoughts and she glances up.Â
The smile on Choâs face is different from before. Itâs comforting, gentle, this time and Ginny canât help but nod.
After a few more exchanges, the two girls make their way to leave the cafe, Cho needing to get back to work and Ginny unsure of where sheâll head next.
As they depart on the streets, Ginny finds herself longing to be in Choâs company again, her heart beating quietly for the first time in years.

Marcus doesnât know why he fools himself every year.
All he has to do is politely decline, stay inside for the night and not have to worry about his nerves.
Except he always caves in, regretting his decision all the way to the entrance of the haunted houses.
Yes, houses, because Terence loves being scared to an unfathomable degree.
The first step in is fine, Marcus more disgusted by the body part decorations than scared.Â
He spots the screamers before Adrian and Terence do, pulling on his facade of disinterest for the first part of the house.
Until the strobe lights, the hands reaching out from the walls top to bottom, and Marcus finds himself separated from his friends.Â
He knows the hands are fake, that nothing will really hurt him, but theyâre too close.Â
The flashing leads him astray and Marcus backs into a corner, his chest heaving with no way to catch his breath.Â
Everyone seems to pass by, focused on the path ahead than a huddled man almost in tears. Marcus canât even find it in himself to call for help, his hands covering his face from the flashing lights.Â
âHey, letâs get you to the exit,â a voice shouts over the artificial screams and a hand lands on Marcusâ shoulder, causing him to curl away.
Despite the noise around him, Marcus can hear the soothing voice, the gentle guide of hands as heâs brought onto his feet and led into a door close by.
Once in a sparsely lit hallway with no decorations or deceiving music, Marcusâ breath comes out shuddered.
He didnât mean to grab onto the stranger that helped him and he pulls his hand back only to have it be caught halfway.
âItâs okay. Hang on to me until we get outside okay?â
Nodding, Marcus glances over, attempting to give the blood-drenched actor a smile.Â
The gesture is returned before the man jumps into conversation that doesnât matter and the two come out into the chilled night.
âMarcus!âÂ
Terence and Adrian run over to Marcus, both hugging him tight.
âWe didnât mean to lose you, we tried to go back but they wouldnât let us!â
Marcus says nothing, just grateful to have his friends with him again and he pulls away from the hug to thank the actor.
âAll in a dayâs work,â the actor shrugs, his soft grin a stark contrast to his costume.
He disappears on an unfinished note, but Marcus doesnât run after him.
As he follows Terence and Adrian through the rest of the fairgrounds, his friends give constant reassurance, occasionally interrupted by Terenceâs, âHe was cute. You should get his number.â
Marcus rolls his eyes, his usual, aloof self finally coming back. âOh, yeah, sure. Like that would ever turn into something.â
âGood story to tell your kids when they ask how you met,â Adrian channels and Terenceâs grin is proud.
Again, Marcus brushes off his friends as the rest of the evening continues with less scaring and much more fun until they are ready to leave for the night.
When he spots a familiar actor waiting by the exit, Marcusâ heart thrums in his chest and for the first time in his life, he welcomes his fear as he and the man approach each other, intense stares and smiles to match.
