Last night was fun. Heather and I went bar crawling with Jack and his two friends for his 21st. Think my favorite was probably Insert Coin(s), a bar with a whole lot of arcade machines and even some xbox 360s/ps3s. Unfortunately to play the really rad games for ps3/xbox360 (like Persona 4 Arena) you had to buy a whole bottle of booze. Lame. The drinks made up for it though, I could live off of their Princess Peach forever in terms of alcohol. But yeah, overall it was a good night, I can say with confidence now that I know my limits (didn't get sick, aw ye) Right now is a little less fun, as I'm pretty sure the piping in our hotel is shit, seeing how there is vomit in our sink that doesn't belong to Heather or I. Which is why I'm awake.
Win money playing video games? It's an idea that some would love to see advance. Leading the charge: Insert Coin(s), the video game/bar on Fremont Street.
That's the advice from Rog Kachelriess of Thrillst. He lists several venues, both new and old, that make downtown worth the stop. Among them: Pizza Rock, Insert Coin(s), The Downtown Grand, the Mob Museum and The Container Park.

Sky Sanctuary Insert Coin(s) Metal/Progressive/Chiptune/8bit Sky Sanctuary is a band heavily rooted in their video game roots. Listening to their music, you can tell that they are children of the 90s. With song titles like; "Saffron Hills [Zone 2]" (Saffron City, ala Pokemon and Emerald Hills, ala Sonic the Hedgehog) you might expect covers or remakes of the aforementioned themes from the areas of their corresponding games, but actually, Sky Sanctuary does a commendable job creating original compositions that still make you reminisce and long for the days of Gameboy Colors and N64s. Listening to the song "Desert Valley [Zone 4]" an allusion to Gerudo Valley from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I can imagine myself in a very dangerous city of thieves. Filled with alleys, shadows and secrets. "Lava Canyon [Zone 5]" has danger at every turn and spews guitar riffs at the listener like streams of lava. The only thing I feel is missing from the album overall, is a sense of progression. The first track is just as brutal as the last and I feel that it would have felt even more nostalgic if it had started off less brutal and progressed as you listened. The overall sound of the album, though, is synthesized sounds that are so well balanced into the mix, that they blend seamlessly with the otherwise metal landscape. Still, they lend enough chiptune goodness to soak the entire album in a permanent sense of nostalgia. The guitars then give it that new generation feel giving you a band that can stand alone in the metal scene. No need to love video games to love these guys. In fact, this being their debut album, I can't wait to see what they do next. Will they continue this video game trend? Or will they move in another direction? Only time will tell, and I will definitely be keeping an eye on these guys for you all.
