Cal knew the words were a bad idea as soon as they left his mouth. His hands shook by his sides, and the silence that overtook the room was a dangerous one.Ā
Omelas slumped back, skin peeled back as Montresor withdrew his hands from where he was carving runes into his rib bones.Ā
The thin blade he held was not the most dangerous part of him, although that in connection with his bare, bloodied hands made quite the imposing scene.Ā
He laid the blade to the side, and made his way over to Cal. The sympathy in Montresorās eyes was genuine, if condescending. As Montresorās hand cupped his face, as he smiled sadly, Cal felt like a small animal.Ā

The blood Montresorās hand left on his face was that of something long-dead. The scent and texture made Cal feel sick.Ā

Vampires in my world get a character creation screen when they turn and they still all somehow manage to come out some flavor of goth
Iām dying to hear about how literal or not this ācharacter creation screenā is, it sounds fun!
It made me think of Nora and her relationship to character creation screens over time, and how she probably had this journey of self acceptance through the medium of video games. I think it was the first space where she would let herself visualize herself as a girl when she played as girl avatars, and then slowly she would customize them to be fatter to match herself that way, too.

Haha Iāll go with the Querencia team for this one, since most of my other OCs donāt have indoor plumbing or arenāt in charge of housework. Nari definitely changes it, and Quinn does, too. Jamil usually does, but he forgets sometimes. Alex forgets more often than not. And Liliana uses the last of the roll for the first time and spends the next five minutes locked in the bathroom freaking out until she can find the spare rolls and change it.
Do you know if it's standard etiquette to tag people who are on the taglist for a work in event asks relating to that work? Like MAGM/WBW/STS asks that you answer relating to it? I rarely have some real excerpt to tag about but I was wondering if that was something that was generally seen as worth tagging for.
I donāt think thereās a standard etiquette per se, itās really up to what you think is worth tagging people for, and what the people on your taglist are looking for. I donāt think thereās a right or wrong answer.
For me personally, I only tag people in asks and non-excerpt posts when I feel like itās significant information ā like if I post a little drabble or a snippet in response to an ask, or if I drop some lore information that I think is important. But I know some other people put their tag list for every single post they make, and thatās fine too.
You could maybe try asking the people on your tag list for their thoughts and feedback?

It was a careless mistake.
Nikolai had never meant to get caught. Why would he? He was only stealing something he was forbidden to have, for someone who was never meant to see it.
In hindsight, he thought, it would have been obvious. He'd heard his own hooves on the stone floors enough times to realize that they would be audible to anyone awake at this time of night.
He'd been so caught up in the idea of a heroic mission to help his best friend, he'd forgotten all about the risks he was taking. The mistake he made.
A careless mistake that had caught up to him, and left him out in the cold, with no more than the clothes on his back, never to return to the place he called home.
