Spec your 2020 Supra 🇯🇵 ______________________________________ [7/16/19] The 2020 Supra Configurator is pretty sparse for the launch year with just a few colors and only three trim levels really being the options! Spec your Supra and DM it to me to be featured! The Supra starts around $49k in the US and only comes with one engine for now. Then you can move up to the Premium spec for like $53k which just makes a few things standard like heated seats, wireless charging... you know like BMW options. Then comes the color options like Nitro yellow for $395, Tungsten, Turbulence Grey, & Downshift Blue. 🌙 @Allcarnews Spec Sheet: Under the hood of the production Supra is a 3.0L Turbo straight 6 making 335HP and 365lb-ft of Torque from BMW through an 8 speed Auto to the rear wheels! Toyota appears to be sandbagging the numbers too because recent tests have seen the Supra can do 0-60 in a really quick 3.8sec while the brand says 4.1sec. Aparently it also can to the 1/4mile in 12.3sec! This could all be from yesterday’s revelation that BMW (the maker of the Supra’s engine) is sandbagging the true insanity of the M5 Competitions numbers! 🌙 Then is the limited edition Launch Edition model that gets a bit expensive and is basically fully loaded and starts around $55k with just 1,500 being made world wide! For that extra stuff you get red mirror caps, black wheels, and a special plaque! All of the models get optional carbon mirror caps along with a few other accessories. ________________________________________ ACN EXTRA: These are just the beginning options, loads of stuff is coming in the future. ________________________________________ -Text by @allcarnews -Images by Toyota - #Toyota #Supra #BMW #inline6 #german #japan #jdm #SV #Spied #ToyotaSupra #inline6 #M3 #coupe #Z4 ||#powerful #performance #turbocharged #advanced #SupercarsRevamped #Supercar #HyperCar #ItsWhiteNoise #CarLifeStyle #MadWhips #003 #Carstagram #BlackList #AmazingCars247 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz-8j1_Bc4N/?igshid=7sey0utpp081
Follow up question. WTF is a flat 6 engine type? lol
Ok. I’m going to try to explain this to the best of my ability but I am in no way an automotive professional. You have been warned.
Alrighty, most people are familiar with V6 engines. These are engines that have 3 cylinders mounted on either side of a crank shaft in a “V” formation. Like so:
There are also “straight6″ or “inline6” engines which have the cylinders all mounted in one straight line, like so:
Finally, there is the “Flat6″ engine, which has two banks of 3 cylinders sharing crankpins, with no angle (so it’s “flat”) like so:
The V6 is super common, because it’s more compact and easy to mod (and usually cheaper) in the current automotive industry. The inline6 is also really common, but obviously takes up more room and can throw off a car’s center of gravity (unless it’s in a BMW, Porsche, etc. because they know their shit). The vehicle basically has to be built around the engine (you usually can’t put an inline6 in a car that originally had a v6 in it). They do require more complex fuel systems, but in terms of engine design they’re simpler and easier to maintain. If I remember correctly, you can get more torque out of them with the same amount of power as opposed to a V6. Now, the flat6 is not very common at all. In the US, I think the only brands you can get are Porsche and Subaru (the sticker I have specifically refers to Porsche since they’re known as something of a champion of flat6 engines). A flat6 typically has better handling than a V6 because it has a delightfully low center of gravity and doesn’t have to contend with the length issues of an inline6 to achieve it. So flat6 cars are driver’s cars. They are performance darlings. They’re also easier to cool because of the configuration and make much prettier noises (an important aspect, ok?) (no, seriously, read more here: https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a15107374/this-is-why-various-engine-types-sound-so-different-feature/). If you ever find yourself thinking “that Subaru that just went by has no business sounding that sexy,” a flat6 engine is probably to blame.TL;DR Porsches are magical feats of German engineering and flat6 engines are rad. Also, you can also have 4,8, etc. cylinder versions of these, I just used 6 for continuity.
