9. What is the general in-universe reception of this ship?

Three words.

"Oh dear God."

Lmaoooooo canonically, they don't have any friends. Like, at all. Even at the very most, they don't consider anyone to be good friends.

So it's kinda like seeing two people you really can't stand getting along. Then having a surprise baby. Then getting married. It's very strange.

17. If (god forbid) your ship were to break up, what would cause them to break up? Who breaks things off?

Oh, this is gonna be really sad

Kimblee and Ingrim can weather pretty much any storm together. But I have thought about what the only thing that could break them apart would be. And it's Clara J's sudden* death.

If there was an accident and she died, Ingrim would be inconsolable. She'd just die inside with her, and Kimblee wouldn't have the emotional intelligence to help her. This would be his very first time feeling grief, so he wouldn't know what to do with it. Things would just deteriorate.

* I say sudden because if she were to become terminally ill, they'd have time to emotionally prepare for it. Not that it would be any easier or lesser. It's more so on Kimblee's part that he has time to process things. He would get the chance to know what to say and do. He would be able to help Ingrim cope, and when it happens, she'd be able to guide him through his grief.

(Of course, Ingrim would leave Kimblee's ass if he cheated, but he would never. And neither would she.)

28. Do you have AUs for this ship? If applicable, which AU is your favorite?

Let's see, there's:

1. KimGrim Lives AU

The iconic KGL AU. Instead of dying and departing for oblivion together inside Pride, Kimblee and Ingrim live. Events that I'm not sure I want to spoil here occur, and they grow closer. Years down the line, they end up accidentally having Clara J. And a few years after that, they get married. More happens, but again, I'm not sure if I want to spoil it here.

2. Ishval Ingrim AU

Like it says, Ingrim is in Ishval in this version. She leaves Lotte for the military at 16 instead of 18, and thus winds up getting her field experience at 18 and is put in Ishval on Kimblee's escort team due to her sharpshooting scores. They find they get along best with each other and end up having an illegal affair and falling in love. But Kimblee still does what he does and lands himself in prison. Ingrim ends up being pregnant and having Clara J without telling him. Years later, after his business in Drachma, he pops by her place and finds out about their daughter.

There's also another variant of this where Clara J visits him in prison.

(I could be getting her ages wrong with the timeline I have, but the point is this AU happens if she leaves Lotte early)

3. No Prison AU

Kimblee doesn't keep his Philosopher's Stone from Ishval and doesn't end up in prison. He goes back to being a regular State Alchemist, and one day, when popping by Archer's office, he meets the new hire, Lieutenant Ingrim.

4. Childhood Friends AU

Exactly what it says. Kimblee and Ingrim are childhood friends. I haven't decided on how it would work, timeline-wise, as they have a five year age gap. But if it weren't there, or less pronounced, they would absolutely be friends. Two little outcasts. Little Kimblee yaps about things like science that little Ingrim doesn't understand, but she listens happily anyways.

5. Mermaid AU

First public mention of the mermaid AU!!! It takes place some time in horse and carriage years. Kimblee is still an alchemist, but it's more grounded and less like it is in the main series. Ingrim is a mermaid. Humans and mermaids are of equal intelligence, but there's a language barrier, as mermaids aren't capable of speaking out of water. I actually have more lore about the mermaids involving anatomy and such, but I won't get into it here. Anyway, Kimblee meets Ingrim while out on the sea, searching for rare materials. They form a deal where Ingrim gives him such in exchange for human jewels/jewelry.

6. Cat AU

A very silly, unserious AU where Kimblee is a Turkish Angora and Ingrim is a British Shorthair. Kimblee is owned by the Armstrong family, and Ingrim is owned by Archer. She ends up getting out, Archer is horrified by what happens, and Armstrong gives him cat food as child support.

7. Dog AU

Same as the cat AU, but Kimblee is an Afghan Hound, and Ingrim is a Chow/Pom mix.

I probably have more, but I can't remember them rn. And, of course, I have some with dear friends, though I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention them here like this.

Honestly, the KGL AU barely even registers as an AU to me anymore, even though it still is one. Technically, that would make it my favorite, but I'll say my favorite is the Ishval Ingrim AU. I've put a lot of time and thought into it. I think about it almost as much as the main two routes.

Um, no, I don't think so. It's just a fun fact. It doesn't really affect the writing, in my opinion.

I'm interested. What other details are you talking about? I try to balance Ingrim's traits out. And she doesn't have the hallmarks of a Mary Sue, I don't think.

- Everyone loves a Mary Sue. Ingrim isn't really liked by anyone outside of Kimblee and her OC family (and the version of Archer I'm putting in the mangahood continuity). She has no friends, and it's not because of anything cliché, she's just not interested.

- Mary Sues are overpowered. All Ingrim really has are her guns. She can be taken out quite easily.

- Mary Sues can do no wrong, according to the narrative. Ingrim can, and has in the past, absolutely done awful things that aren't justifiable. She isn't a good person, and I don't intend on touting her as a good person.
