Agnes Catlow – Scientist of the Day

Agnes Catlow, an English popular science author, died May 10, 1889, at the age of about 83.

Introducing Monoliths! They’re one of many types of Myriaverses 5th dimensional infusoria I’ve been working on. Very simple concepts right now, but they're just kinda a HUGE, MONOLITHIC extra dimensional critter that siphons tasty foods like planktonic life and algae etc etc out of large bodies of water to feed. It "walks" between worlds through space-time to points where the season is most ideal for its food sources to appear, meaning that from an outside perspective, they appear to manifest seasonally and then disappear for the rest of the year.

Thankfully, these spooky giant critters aren’t aggressive, but don't run up and start shooting one or else it might kick you clean outta your timeline and leave your gory splatter in a place you shouldn’t even exist. Despite their size, they're a large prey species (even the Myriaverses version of Cargo cult could probably take one down solo, even at their most parsed-down size as shown above).

Monolith eyes can be very lurid, bright colors, but their bodies are usually either desaturated and dark or desaturated and ghostly light. I thought making them only two colors (one for the eyes and one for the body) would be super neat for that "looming menace" look.

Fun fact! There’s a Myriaverses population of humans that DOES specifically track a particular individual of this species as some sort of anomaly and just call it "Larry" affectionately.

Felix Dujardin, a French invertebrate zoologist and microscopist, was born Apr. 5, 1801.

William Saville-Kent – Scientist of the Day

William Saville-Kent, an English marine biologist, was born July 10, 1845.

George Adams, Jr., an English instrument maker and author, died Aug. 14, 1795; he was born in 1750, with no known birthday.
