That made two of them. What a painful thing it was to have in common, silent suffering.  (  He knows she handles it better, though. That hurts more.  )

Painful, in that even if you  wanted  to understand, some things you couldn’t.  &  so the uncomfortable silence between you  grows  the longer the want to comfort remains. 

A piece of paper is folded subtly. Turned this way  &  that before the next. Keeping his hands busy meant his thoughts stayed on track. Eventually it’s a butterfly, some of the inferni’s notes in Shu making up the fine lines of its wings. Eventually, he has something to say.

BAD  END   :     admit  you  don’t  know  how  big  the  human  brain  is.      look  like  a  total  idiot.     die  in  a  ditch,   alone  and  unloved,   after  she  tells  everyone  that  scott  pilgrim  is  a  regular,   old  school  dumbass. MEDIUM  END   :      pretend  you  didn’t  hear  the  question.     this  bides  you  time  while  she  repeats  the  question.     panic. GOOD  END   :      RUN  FOR  YOUR  LIFE.
