@krashayaâ  said  :  Itâs the second time she visits Kerch and this time with much less excitement. The city that had once seemed to bustle with energy, felt like a distant blur around her. Sheâs just barely aware of the tightness of Davidâs grip of her hand, as if afraid sheâll topple over if he doesnât hold on. Genya reckons she might as they draw closer to the house. Grand in itâs form, itâs just like he had described it to be when they were children. She never had the chance to visit until then. Sheâs met by a face sheâs seen before, stern and unmoving even under the circumstances. Kaz Brekker is the only one who seems willing to step away from the gathering out back.
Genya hears Ninaâs sobs before she makes it outside. She hadnât even gotten to see him before they had buried him. The time to travel across the sea had taken too long, and she didnât hold it against them. She still remembers his soft features that she helped mold back. The bounce of each curl that framed his face, the same head of hair that pulled her through old hallways and corridors. The colour of his cheeks that held the warmth of the boy he was. The same colour that rose when she teased him about the tall boy who couldnât stand still. The deep expanse of his blue eyes. They had lost the shine from his adolescence, but they held the spark of curiosity even when he didnât look like himself.
She wraps her arms around the younger Grisha girl, and holds strong for her. On the ride back home, Genya would tell David everything she knew about Wylan while her eyes glossed over and her fond smiles were punctuated with streaks down her face.
