Dare to Shine, Dare to Dream
I made this outfit last semester inspired by the “Pure Silver” trend. We put together a runway show and the venue was a historical building downtown in my hometown in Mexico.
The product connects to my visual style mainly because of the venue where the picture was taken, I think it was the perfect balance between a futuristic trend and the beautiful Mexican culture and architecture.
A vibe of transformation was given, almost as if it represented how far Mexico has come, and how its future will always have our culture and our history by its side.
Production costs for a Stamen Bag
When you first design a piece of clothing or accessories, you don’t usually think of how much it could cost you to take that idea to an actual object you can touch and wear.
Therefore it is important we stop thinking like a designer for a second and put on our financial helmet and analyze all these important details.
For example, I designed and made this stamen bag. I did the math and figured out how much it costed me to do it and at how much I could sell it.
If I wanted to take this bag to mass production, it could probably change my initial cost. The goal is of course to reduce the initial production price, and even though that would change the 20% profit, it doesn’t matter, since technically we would sell more bags.
Now, since the costs of the stamen went down, and we found a way to minimize the time it take to make the bag, the cost did reduce about $40 which I consider a success.
production standards
Various brands, whether they are high street or designer, use different sizing systems which are mostly cut to their target audience. While researching for this post, so trying on different types of clothing in different sizes by again different brands, I realized that you cannot rely on one size you think is always going to fit you. So I picked three different sizes when trying on coats by brands ranging from Dolce&Gabbana to Zara and noticed that more so the cut of the coat plays a role than the actual sizing. While a bigger size of the D&G coat fit me less because it was a straigth-cut topcoat with broad shoulders, a smaller size of a Zara coat fit me better as it was a looser cut with the shoulder seam reaching beneath the shoulder and rather around the upper arm. Thus I realize that the same size cannot be applied to all shapes of coats and especially the torso and shoulder part must fit perfectly and appropriately.
