Beautiful throwback to @korinaemmerich 💜 "It’s been a challenging week reflecting on the myriad of events surrounding the UN Climate Summit. Being present at these events, while I find it important and am grateful for the invites to be able to share with a larger network, it is uncomfortable at times. It is uncomfortable to live in NYC because daily we are inundated with advertisements, it’s like walking around in They Live (1988 movie- if you haven’t seen it, see it) #consume #consume #consume. . . My biggest take away this week was from one of the speakers from the Amazon during @therainforestsummit . The panel consisted of all Indigenous Amazonian’s, most of who were visiting for the first time. When asked what they thought of NYC, the response resounded in truth: we take EVERYTHING. . . I am paraphrasing as I don’t have a direct quote: “I thought NYC was a paradise. It is not. You have so much, you have everything- and now you’re taking from us. We have little and you have everything.” Nemonte Nenquimo, Waorani Leader . . Consumerism, capitalism and greed. There is so much to say. Too much to say, too much to learn, too much to change. It is our job now as privileged creatives to find ways to restructure the industry’s we work in. To support indigenous rights and voices. To megaphone indigenous demands. It is time for the adults to step up and demand change. I have a lot I want to share - I can’t find all the words. This ‘influencer’ thing is weird and I wanna be up front about that. But I’m grateful to bring attention to important topics. . . If it matters I made this outfit an hour before the event. The recycled fabric I got after volunteering 3 hours sorting textile waste at @fab_scrap . We have options in the way we choose to consume." . #deforestation #protectamazonia #indigenousrepresentation #indigenousrights #obey #landacknowledgement #Upcycling #recycle (at New York City) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4Xeup4ns67/?igshid=obniznkf0iyh
