moray eels actually eat octopuses

i find their relationship with azul to be kinda funny

while hunting octopus, moray eels tend to tie themself into a knot to prevent the octopus from gripping them with its tentacles

“opening their mouth to mate”

i have seen a lot of fanfics about how moray eels open their mouth to mate, as much as i love them and will continue to read them this is actually Wrong,

moray eels do not mate by opening their mouth, they actually open their mouth to breath—a form of ventilation if you will, the water passes over the gills and exists through a vent like opening at the back of the head, due to this a lot of divers/people either assume it’s them being aggressive since it shows off their teeth, or if it’s in front of another eel believe it is a form of mating—but unfortunately it is not the case, their just trying to exist in peace gng

Moray eels actually mate at night due to being mostly nocturnal and because it’s when they feel safest, when moray eels do reproduce it is through external fertilisation—meaning there is no mating ritual’s like mammals, eggs and sperm are realised into the water (usually during specific seasons/moon cycle’s)

BUT

jade and floyd are merfolk and are fictional so there is no harm with headcannons like that, just wanted to clear up some miss-information.

moray eels have hook like—backward facing teeth for snagging prey. they also have a second set of jaws (pharyngeal jaw) that comes forward to grip the prey and pull it down the throat

Type of moray eel jade/floyd are

jade is typically more based on a green moray eel known to be more calm—still dangerous—reaching roughly 6ft (1.8m) to 8ft (2.5 meters) long and weigh 13kg up to 29.5kg (30-65 lb) —they are one of the largest moray eels, green moray eels are coated with thick mucus to protect them from disease and parasites.

Floyd is more so bassed on giant moray eel—known to be aggressive and having unpredictable mood swings within the wild, going from calm and friendly to aggressive and attacking quickly—they grow up to 9.8-10ft (3-4 meters) in length and weigh as much as 30kg (66 lb)

Eels dorsal fin begins just behind its head and extends along the length of its body, it is fused with the tail and anal fins

• jade is a tease, this man will do anything and everything to get a reaction out of you, as we all know, but i feel as though he wouldn’t have limits, like he wouldn’t JUST tease you he’d full on do the things he knows that trigger you and then right after be the “perfect gentleman” he’d be just obvious enough that you suspect it to swap into caring mode so you doubt your observation/experience, this man is a WHORE for seeing you confused, he wants to get the upper hand in everything and he does— knowing exactly when to stop and how much to push your buttons, it’s all calculated to get the best emotions out of you and he loves it.

• everyone in the fandom knows both jade and floyd are sadistic—but with their polar opposite personality’s they would definitely execute this differently as well—jade wants you confused—floyd wants you overwhelmed

• (this may be a stretch but it’s a peak headcannon trust) so for all the freak simps out there, floyd would definitely 100% show off his pharyngeal jaw to freak you and everyone else out—but also because he knows the kind of reaction he gets from you

• floyd may be chaotic and unpredictable, but in no way shape or form is he dumb, he’s just as smart as jade, i feel like floyd would be the type to give you love bites—your not sure if it’s friendly, aggressive, or just for the fun of marking you

What if Derek survive the merge but now mute. But bc his stubborn of want to communicate with Avery in anyway & his infinite knowledge.

He try communicate by ASL

But having infinite knowledge truly mean you can execute it?

He want to communicate with Avery so much and Avery willing to learn bc he want Derek to be seen.

This goes to my concept for my other writing for this au too, of “having infinite knowledge doesn’t mean you know what you doing bc emotion will take over the logic, always.”

Now I want to put it in the context of Derek.

Yes he know all the languages in the world after brain blast, but have to work through the language and express cues of ASL. The expression both the sign and face have to be clear to communicate, or else the sign will have different meanings.

Even if he can look at people sign and understand, can he do it himself.

It not about the knowledge, but if he can pass through his ego and his close off to go through it for someone

I want to explore Derek’s ego, how it can be a good (and attractive af trait-) but also how it can be a big negative to people he care for.

Especially with ASL too, you have to be direct, he can’t be fully cryptic about it. So he have to put his emotions bare to Avery if he want to communicate to clearly

The frustration of actually know something but can’t fully express it as he want to from the mix of him don’t want to be fully vulnerable and his ego being bruised from that fact alone.

Infinite knowledge doesn’t mean shit if you not use it properly.

And Avery end, he would be so good at this language if he actually learned it right. He so expressive and all. And might be one language he learn quicker than Derek compared to others.

His memorization (especially with the grammar structure) will be shit, but expression and sign association with meaning will come faster for Avery.
