           [ This letter is hand written on a piece of stationary that is unlike the others, because it has a family crest in the corner with 'Falsworth' written under it in a cursive text. The page is tinted a cream color and the writing is written in her standard cursive ]

            You should be so proud of yourself, Lady Falsworth Miss Carter. I assure you that you will go on to achieve so many things in your life.

            Now, knowing myself I'm sure the the letterhead and the last name have given away enough and that I'm doubtful I'm enjoying these glimpses into the future, so I won't inform you of what happens or how you end up there, because the adventure is part of it and it is completely worth it in the end, I can assure.

             All you need to know is these three things:

Your faith is almost always well placed

Your heart tends to be right, you should listen to it more often

You're going to make mistakes and you're going to face tough decisions and that's all right. You just have to remember that you'll have to clean it up or be willing to face the consequences of your actions.

You're a good woman, Peggy. You can't change your past, you can't change the loss of the man you loved, and you can't carry that weight on your shoulders forever. Keep him in your heart but take it from yourself - do not weigh yourself down with it. It will only do more harm than good.

4: cheek kiss

        Jim is her best friend, the two could be together for eternity and she would be happy just existing with him. It isn't like what she has with Jack but it's certainly special and perhaps the only who can rival it is Bex, but she hasn't spoken with Bex in months, and it leaves a hole in her heart.

          It seems all Peggy has anymore is a shredded heart instead of what has once been there.

        Her mother had promised her all the happiness in the world growing up.

                      This was not happiness.

                            This was simply going through the motions.

         Regardless she has made the time to visit Jim today, because there are puppies here and that tends to make everything better. Currently she sits with Puggy Pawsworth in her lap, rubbing behind the puppy's ears, and she smiles when Jim brings her the cuppa she requested, and takes it.

       It's a few more hours that the two spend just talking, watching some telly, and relaxing together, because that's what the two do. After a lovely dinner she realizes that she has to be up in the morning to catch a flight on her new mission, but she'll be around soon enough again, they both know it.

        At the door she leans over and kisses his cheek. "Thank you, Jim, for everything."

       He gives her a grin, though, and she knows something likely cheesy is coming. "It's part of the job, Peaches. See you soon, right?"

The first thought is that it’s the color of the sky she spends free moments looking up at when lost in a fantasy. It is of the ocean that she spent her childhood dancing in on long weekends of the summers when her parents would take her there for a family day. She closes her eyes as she remembers the foam curling up and around her toes and the way her father would bring her in to build a sand castle, telling her to run down to the water to gather up more for a moat.

Those are memories from so long ago it’s as if she’s almost forgotten them. It has been eighty years since the smell of the sea, the feel of the waves, and the laughter of her parents and over time her brother.

It’s the feeling of curiosity when she first sees Steve’s eyes, the feeling comes from the shade of his eyes. It’s the shiver that rushes through her when she realizes that there’s a different way he’s looking, no, not looking, gazing upon her with his oculars, and the way she feels her heart melt when it happens.

It’s the color of his suit, of the country’s sea for the stars to rest upon, it’s the symbol of hope for her.

That is until that fateful day.

That’s when it becomes the color of sorrow, the color of disappointment in herself. The tint of the room where she helped Steve, where she respected his choice in the matter at hand.

It’s the feeling of self-hate, the sour taste in her mouth when she wakes up having to go through the motions of the day. There is no joy, and everything is tinted in a hue that she finds herself detesting.

       "Come in this is Captain Rogers...."

       "Captain Rogers what is yo-"

      "Steve is that you? Are you all right?"

             Those are the first words spoken to them since she saw him jump from the car to the plane. She had been waiting for him impatiently though hiding it so very well from those around her. She's practically pushed Morita from his chair and taken over the conversation, talking to him, because as good at controlling herself she is, she needs to talk to Steve. She needs to hear the report, know how much longer it is until she can at least hug him.

              His tone tells her all, though, but she can't help the hope she has, the desire to believe it'll work out. He brought back all those men. He brought back so many and he's done so much, this is just one more thing against the odds for him to beat, right? 

              When they make plans to meet up at the club in a week she knows he won't be there. She knows better, but she keeps a grasp on that hope that he'll somehow be there.

              "I wouldn't want to step on your-"

              Static. She's greeted with static and the tears that were beginning to burn and threaten to stain her face do. They can't hold back, she is a mess as she hides her head in her hands and the attempts to keep the crying quiet, but she fails. Peggy doesn't allow it to become any louder than sobs (no need for wailing) and she knows she'll have to make a report sooner than later.

                Or will she?

                 Surely they know what's happened in here. Surely they'll realize she's suffering. Surely they won't make her.

               Truly she has no idea how long she's been there, alone, or at least what she believes is alone with her grief as her only companion. She feels something, though, in the back of her mind, a presence and normally it would have made her tense, it would have caused her to react much differently, but she doesn't have the energy. The strength to put up a fight to anyone would likely be too much on her heavy shoulders.
