What if at some point there’s a house service android marketed to wealthy people that turns out to be run by rotating shifts of poorly paid laborers, but it’s still adopted by the elite because it means they don’t have to invite real lower class human beings into their homes and they can program constraints in the behavior of the “robot” that they can’t easily enforce in human beings

Thing that makes my heart sing
My daughter and I discussing a somewhat random thing in Dragon Age 3: A villainous spirit says they will give you riches, power, or virgins. Which seemed like the standard fare- until I got to the dialogue choices which actually included all three options. She and I then had a lengthy and hilarious discussion about where these ‘virgins’ would be coming from.
“Are they farm fresh?” “Are they YOUR virgins?” “Are they stolen?” “Will they like me?” “Wait- wait IS THERE a virgin farm?” “And, if so, Are these cage-free virgins?” etc.
And then the subject of the gender of these virgins came up and she said: “Well you’re pan, so you don’t really care [any which way].”
The top two things I love about this conversation are: 1 - Having been raised in a different generation and time her mind doesn’t immediately conjuring images of some virginal girl bound and dragged to a warlord. 2 - The fact that I’m pansexual is not a big deal at all to her.
I also enjoy the mental image of someone with a Virgin Farm where some kind of happy homunculus-esque people are creatures are grown from plants and then hand raised and spend their lives frolicking about in open pastures until the farmer takes them, in a 1940s Ford pickup truck, to their new homes.
(I know reality and the usual fantasy portrayals are far far ickier but I was imagining with a child and I think I like this version far more than the usual ‘women are spoils of war to be captured, sold, offered, or claimed and then broken and ridden like the dumb beasts they are.’)
