#imaginary forces

Here’s a screencap of Jenna Coleman recovering from her ordeal in the just released short film called “Corporate Monster”. Evidently, the film, which had been called “Imaginary Forces” in a previous trailer, was re-worked and updated and stars Jenna as a character named Ellen. The original trailer was released back in 2012 and appears to have been filmed in 2010 or 2011.

In either 2010 or 2011 Jenna Coleman filmed a short film which was originally billed as "Imaginary Forces". A trailer came out in 2011 (which has now been removed), but was followed by silence. It is now finally being released on Monday, but under the different title of "Corporate Monster", according to this tweet!

The red fox, just on a objective outward level, has got the color of Anne’s classic hair,” said Williams. “Then we liked the idea of it being like a loner, by itself as the shot opens at the beginning. In that very dismal, isolated, cold season, we see it by itself, looking up at the moon.

The owl, that represented the kind of that fierceness, that boldness of Anne with talons raised up toward camera,” Williams said. “We loved that idea of how she seems small and she seems like, at times of you know like, when she’s reading poetry or talking about romance, to be one-sided. But the facets of her are so great because in the next minute, she’s like slamming a [slate] on Gilbert.

Moira brought up the hummingbirds and she had talked about like harbingers of joy,” said Williams. “Anywhere that [Anne is] at, she brings such a joy, and such a light, and such a brightness to it. And we saw with the hummingbirds, lost in her, buzzing around her hair. It represented that idea of what she brings, a whimsy and joy to these scenes.

Many of us die-hard Jenna Coleman fans can say we’ve seen virtually everything she’s done during her decade in the business. Some of us have even been able to track down most of her Emmerdale episodes (though nothing has turned up yet of her Emmerdale-related Children in Need appearance...). Certainly stuff like Captain America, Death Comes to Pemberley, Titanic, etc. - we’ve pretty much seen it all. Some of us have even got our hands on rarer performances like her 2013 audio book reading of The Secret Garden.

But waaaay back in 2011, a year before she was cast as Clara, during her sojourn in the US (during which she tried out for roles in 2 Broke Girls, Suits and some sitcom in which she would have played an Australian), she filmed a role for director Ruairi Robinson’s SF/horror short film Imaginary Forces.

A one-minute teaser was uploaded to Youtube by Robinson on July 28, 2011. In it we’re given glimpses of a film that seems reminiscent of Jacob’s Ladder in parts, with a monster that some in the user comments accurately compared to an Ood. And, oh yes, Jenna breaks out her American accent.

Whatever became of the movie? Who knows. The trailer is still out there and it certainly looks impressive, but there must have been some reason it never (as far as we know) saw the light of day. Which is too bad as, even as a short film - which are notoriously hard to market - this might have done OK when Jenna started to become well-known for Doctor Who. It would do OK, too, because you’d also have Victoria fans checking it out.
