The British Library has an exhibition of Buddhist manuscripts and artworks including âcolourful scrolls, precious artefacts and stunning illuminated books spanning 2,000 years and 20 countriesâ.
At the Nunnery gallery in Bow âLightboxes & letteringâ, an exhibition put together by Rendezvous Projects, âtells the story of the print industry across the 20th century, focusing on the east London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Waltham Forestâ and includes booklets, catalogues, packaging and posters. Until March 29.

This cute picture showed this womanâs mood and emotion successfully. The contrast between the hand drawn typography and clear photography often make the designs standing out.
A Page from Matt Fraction and David Ajaâs âHawkeyeâ
This page from Hawkeye is a fantastic depiction of using pictures and text together to flesh out a characters perspective to the audience. The entirety of this comic issue is told from the perspective not of the man, but the Dog, Lucky. Aja and Fraction do a great job of distorting text and using symbols to show how Lucky thinks while still keeping the audience in the loop.

set task week 2: reportage drawing by charlotte ager, for culture trip
i think the little bits of added text from overheard conversation bring the drawing to life and make it feel like a real snapshot of a live scene instead of just a still visual. the way the text is presented also gives it a sense of movement, as if you can almost see the words floating away after theyâre spoken.
[ASSIGNMENT] ImageText Zine
Based on your readings of âIntroduction to Zinesâ and âBibliocircuitry the Design of the Alien Everydayâ and your viewings in special collections of paper magic in Special Collections, (e.g. 3D glasses, pop-ups, QR codes, augmented reality), you will construct your own zine persuading your reader to join your cause to bring magic to people's lives. In order to persuade, you will also need to explain details about the project.
Option 1: Recruit for an an already existing project (Streetlight at UF Health, Dance Marathon, UF GRiP, Gator Pals)
Option 2: Design and propose your own project to bring magic to people's lives through creativity and/or technology. These can be small random acts of kindness or sustained projects. Play to your strengths and interests.
As mentioned in the reading, the format of zines are up to you. You may incorporate photocollage, hand-drawn illustrations, royalty-free images, etc. Pay careful attention to your layout and design based on your readings âThinking With Type: Letter, Text, Grid, Extras.â QR codes can help you link to URLs if the project already has a website, pop-ups can create visual interest, paper glasses can reveal hidden images, HP Reveal can add 3D models, images, or text to your book, paper circuits can illuminate specific points.
I recommend designing in Canva custom dimensions (5.5x8.5âł) (multiples of 4, 16 minimum), exporting as PDF Print, and printing as booklet on 8.5x11âł. There may be slight registration issues, so it is best to design with extra white space to allow for printing margin errors.
