Today I am going to try not knowing, learn little and get nothing out of it. Pliant and afloat as a waterlily, I’ll cradle my cup of water and sip it like wine, knowing good and well the taste of it is plain as glass, as a sucked-clean dime. I’ll try not thinking of God and wonder why he keeps me in the dark though I beg and beg for help, my prayers sharp as skeins of red vinegar on my tongue.
Lord, the trees can let go of every leaf when the air tells them: Now.
Tonight, I am going to water my ball of mud and try not to touch and touch the tender blades of grass shooting up like the thorn, the thorn in my side.

I just couldn’t breathe in its shadow. It weighed what the cross weighed, that shadow Cross, more than any shadow should. No Sun could shoulder that kind of shadow, No man kneel there without a shudder. The dark beams crushed me flat as shadow, My flesh, grass, matted by the shade. No Way a mere cedar cross could shed so Much dark matter, so weighty a shadow. I just couldn’t breathe in that shadow Until I made myself a shadow- Swallowing sea and swallowed shadow
The way a sea will swallow daylight. The shadow splashed down, and the sun’s light Spilled over—only I was the light’s Sole source, both the prism and the light Beam split into the eye’s wide palette. The splash displaced a volume of light Equal to one sun, this light the light That made of the shadow cross a light Cross to bear, the light that raised my light- Weight body until then strange to flight
But now, death made light of by his dying, Light-footed, fallen, risen, flying.

What are we if not vowels of thirst—
Natasha Oladokun, from “Glossolalia” published in Image
from magazines, newspapers, books, tumblr, twitter, facebook, photos I snap here & there... a shape, a color, a face, a scene, a line, something-anything... I see & feel & think & wonder... I want to move on from that to a new thing... I collect ideas in images... tear it out of a book, or take a picture with my camera or grab it from online & print it... punch holes in the paper & click it into the binder... a treasure trove... -vmaddesso
In longing, I am most myself, rapt, my lamp mortal, my light hidden and singing.
Li-Young Lee, from “I Loved You Before I Was Born” in Image Journal
