"mhm." her eyes flutter shut. she's always been good at following instructions. years of listening. not only to her parents, but also to her guardians, as well as her teachers. and, quite frankly, to herself, too. "is this the part where i tell you what i hear or feel?"
all jokes aside - and it is clear that she is joking - khione does take this seriously. after all, sophie tells her to count to ten, slowly, and count to ten she does. slowly.
will and warren are the hitters of their group; magenta is the thief; ethan is the hacker, zach is the fixer; layla is the maker and they all trade off on masterminding.
it may be a weird system, but it works, and kie loves her group - she does - but she also knows that they need help getting even more established. they need every outstretched hand they can get.
(their only well-done job so far has been to stop gwendolyn grayson, a self proclaimed 'technopath' and tech magnate, who had hated kie's uncle steve and her aunt josie, using her poor cousin, will, to get to them.)
"it's cold in here," kie murmurs, "very cold - i can feel it, which is weird, considering i'm the self proclaimed queen of layers."

" sophie? oh yeah, i have photos of sophie! see that one there? the first one? that's from the time we were supposed to go undercover in madrid, but at the last moment there was a huge break in the case that led to us having a weekend to kill in spain. i'd never been to spain before in my life, but i have to say, sophie's an amazing tour guide! none of the tourist hotspots either, we went to these amazing local restaurants with proper authentic spanish dishes, she took me to a beach that's nearly got white sand, and then there was this band that played at this restaurant we went to that caught all their own seafood straight from the sea! anyway, that's sophie after a ten kilometre hike through the spanish countryside in august. not seen is me being gently rehydrated by a kindly spanish lady with a whole bottle of lemon water. "
" the next photo was meant to be a funny surprise. we both ended up having dates at the same swanky wine bar, but mine was revealing himself to be a complete prick, so i went to ask about a staff exit i could use. who's standing at the other end of the bar? sophie! that's a candid shot, she didn't know i was there at all. she's just looking like that naturally. composed and elegant and poised. as luck would have it, she was actually on the job that night, and when i waved at her i accidentally caught the attention of her date and it just derailed rapidly from then on. she was still super graceful the entire time, though! "
" the last photo is from a fancy gala she had to go to, but her dress was ruined after a ketchup-related incident involving some of my children, who would like to remain nameless at this time. sophie would've gladly taken the excuse not to go, but it was a key part of this overarching job she's been assigned to. anyway, we spent three hours diving into every wardrobe on the property. fatin has some lovely stuff, but not necessarily the kind of thing sophie would wear, and we even looked through the few dresses edwina and kate had with them when they came through, but... regency-era gowns would draw a significant amount of attention. anyway, i'm five minutes from calling a friend who knows a girl, when out comes sophie in one of richard's old suits. and as we can clearly see, she looks like an absolute supermodel in it! i think i need to take notes or something, how does someone just look that good in an untailored suit? she's always coming up with a back-up plan, huh? "
