The conclusions I've come to are: I absolutely love his choices of films to do, they have so far been terrifically varied, universally original, boundary pushing work by really exciting writers and directors.
Second is that he's really a remarkable performer. Deeply emotional, master of small actions, frequently brave with a kind of reckless abandon. And his dialects are on par with the best.
Thirdly - and I use myself as a prime example here - his eternal connection to a series of movies that are so widely maligned by cinephiles means a huge section of film fans dismiss him out of hand when he's really a genuine artist with genuine skill.
