the practice call was really hard 🥺
It's hard to type out a phone number to the relay operator- it's hard to type numbers at all on this stupid keyboard, not to mention that I'm absolutely incapable of keeping numbers in my head for the 2 seconds between looking at the number and typing it. (tbf I should have mentally read the numbers "outloud" instead of just trying to read and remember but I was nervous)
typing in real time is nervous-making!!!
I tend to type GA when I'm done with a sentence but then realize:
(A) didn't give the person (friend helping me practice) enough to respond to
(B) wanted to say more
the instructions I was given:
But when I tried to look up what ASK stands for I only found "SK means Stop Keying, which means you're getting ready to end the call" and "SKSK means you're definitely about to hang up / the call is over" no version of ASK came up?
Possible options?:
- plug in and use one of my wireless keyboards if it allows. I have a mini one and a normal computer one
- maybe it'll get easier?
- maybe the operator I got was just. really bad at typing?
- maybe a call where I'm actually calling for a reason is easier than making a practice call just to practice calling especially with my friend who is notoriously bad at carrying a verbal conversation

Hello to my Deaf followers (if I have any!), I am in need of some help. I am learning ASL and the wonderful lady who tested me today to see what level I should be in for their college chastised me and told me I needed to practice. I only know one deaf person and he is my professor at a different school and not available this summer. Anyone have time to make friends with me?? Thanks!

Deaf Penpals
Is asking for a Deaf penpal offensive/weird to Deaf/HOH people? I feel like it would be weird because it’s like some one wants to talk to you only cause your Deaf and I understand it’s usually to improve sign language and such but idk, what’re your thoughts on it?
Also im sorry if its not okay to tag you guys but I’ve seen others do it so ill assume its okay?
