A figure sits up in the corner, partially hidden by a long bookshelf. After a little bit of shuffling a green form comes into view. His black dreads were pulled back into a makeshift ponytail. His head tilts as he blinks his large amber colored eyes look at the person.
"Good evening. Everything is locked up as usual. Oh and there is some Chinese noodles for you in the fridge. Have a good night Verde. I will see you in the morning," the man tells the green young man, receiving a smile in return.
Then the man left and he was alone. This had become their routine ever since the head librarian found him curled up on the back steps. The man had been kind and upon learning of his condition, gave him everything he needed. A place to sleep. Food. Even a job. His wound has long since healed but that too had been taken care of. The librarian also learned that the green mutant likes to read and listen to both music and audio tapes. So as long as someone does not request the same items he is using, he gave the young man permission to read or listen to his heart's content after he gets his work done.
Work he starts on. He goes upstairs and begins processing the books left on the cart, marking them returned and then returning them to their spot o the shelves. New books get entered into the system, sticker and organized before they also go on the shelf. The ones that were requested by patron that were delivered are separated and marked for the person that will be picking them up including a phone number to reach them for the librarian to call them. Soon it came to gathering the books from the two bins outside meant for returning books after closing hours. So the green mutant opens the side door and places a board in the doorway so it doesn't close. He doesn't have keys to get back in so he would be locked out. The only key he has that he wears around his neck is to the bins. So the green mutant moves quickly to the bins and gathers the returned books. This goes as it usually does until he starts to head back to the door. There a stray dog runs past him with it's tail between it's legs.
Large amber eyes follow the direction to the door to which he gasps in shock. It's closed! The board has been pushed away! He carries the books to the door before carefully setting the down. He begins to turn the handle, to try to get it to open, he even hits it. Nothing. "No, no, come on, let me in, let me back in," he whimpers to himself. There is the sound of something skittering across the concrete floor. Gasping, the green mutant turns around, pressing himself against the door as someone comes towards his way probably from all the noise he made. He watches the person fearfully. The head librarian told him how dangerous it is to be caught outside these days for someone like him. The closer they get, the more his heart races.
