Definitely one of the best and most underrated groovy psych pop album by Bernard Ilous, released in 1974, also on Flamophone, Claude Puterflam's label, two years after the classic french pop self titled album by Ilous & Decuyper. A great cosmic pop folk album with lush arrangement but with a strong groovy jazz funk influence reminding Cortex or Metronomie by Nino Ferrer on some tracks like "Pêle mêle", "Chanson chagrin" or "Rondeau". Many effects and studio tricks are used on this album. No suprise to see the great line up of musicians with JP Alarcen on guitar and André Sitbon and Bernard Lubat on drums, Patrick Gautier & George Rodi on synth, C. Padovan on bass. ......

Ilous & Decuyper - L'élu (from Ilous & Decuyper, on Flamophone, 1971)
In 1971, two french musicians, Ilous and Decuyper, made an album almost on their own, squatting the Vogue studios during the night and whenever they were available, using skilled musicians whenever they could, building patiently their sound to finally create what they had in mind. The result was this mysterious and amazing album, full of intricate vocal parts, inventive arrangements, beautiful melodies with surprising naïve lyrics filled with spirituality, such as this irresistibly weird and charming L'élu (the chosen one). The record was reissued in a vinyl edition by Wah-wah records in 2011.
Unsung hero of the french pop scene, Richard Gilly recorded in 1975 what is to me the perfect autumn album, 'Les froides saisons', filled with subtle intimate songs on which he breathes more than he sings, as on 'My Lady de Montargis', cute sad song about a distant love and one of the highlight of the record, with its delicious chorus:
'Que les semaines sont longues, sans toi, sans même ton ombre'.
