Updated December 31 2022: Illustrator Needed
As I mentioned earlier this year, I wrote a faux-children’s story about a child demon going on a field trip in Hell to learn about the different kinds of sinners and punishments there. Asmodea is a humanoid arthropod who comes from a nuclear family comprised of Mommy, a cambion; Daddy, a demonic familiar spirit; Grandpa, an incubus; and big brother Beelzebub, generally called Bubzy, who will someday also be an incubus. A reader described the story as a combination of Clive Barker and Neil Gaiman with a shoujo overlay, which quote is definitely going on the cover somewhere. The text itself is now securely under copyright, but my vision includes illustrations, and I’m not a visual artist.
I had previously arranged with my cousin to illustrate this book, but she dropped out because of Real Life getting in the way, so now I’m in search of another illustrator. The title of the story is Asmodea and the Field Trip to the Petting Zoo of the Damned. I am currently working on a sequel, Asmodea and Uncle Isaac the Poltergeist. My vision is of nothing terribly elaborate, sort of a combination of the styles of Edward Gorey and Dr. Seuss’ educational books where characters float in space beside the text, but I’m open to other ideas.
I need a minimum of 45 sketch illustrations and a cover. I have to pay over time because I’m on a fixed income, but I’m willing to negotiate a final price plus half the profits, of course.
ETA: please understand that I am not Scary!Christian. I am Inclusive Norse Heathen and this book is meant to amuse adult audiences, not to traumatize kids.
