i love the idea that effie's sense of empathy has been 'deformed' so to speak by the escort's training at the capitol. while the socioeconomic situation that katniss lived in district 12 all her life led her to develop a sort of delayed sense of empathy towards other people, i like to think effie's is also skewed but by the capitol's influence. they are more or less brainwashed to see their tributes as spectacles, as simply things they are supposed to promote and sell. that is how they are trained to act around the tributes and other district victors. they are taught to view everything in the games from a marketing's point of view, and to do that, they need to see the kids as products to sell.
it's not only that effie, having been born in the capitol, has a view of the world and the districts vs the capitol that is absolutely disrupted by the capitol propaganda, but the escorts are actively trained to have those views because they are the ones who are closest in interaction with the district kids. snow cannot allow the escorts to get too close to the kids as to view them as human beings, because in a way, he learned from his experience with lucy gray. it's a dangerous thing for his regime to let the escorts empathize too much with the tributes.
thus, the training the escorts endure, which is basically a brainwashing camp, turns them into the perfect salesmen. i love how disgusting and dark this concept is, ngl.
